Interview with Worship (Classic interviews)

1. Your work on the last Worship´s album „Dooom“ was quite underrated before it was released. Many people didn´t hope, that it will be such a masterpiece as your old ones which remember Max alive. But you “smashed down” all of the expectations. Are you now satisfied ?

I am never satisfied. But actually the reactions to Dooom are creepy so good are they. This really gives me energy and hope to be one day able to do only music. I know, underground and all, but if the global fans of Worship stay with me, it might be possible one day. There is no sucking label bastard leech involved in this CD.

2. As far as I know, the composing and recording of “Dooom” took you 7 years. Did it took you such a long time or did you simply think, that now is the appropriate time to release it ? Despite the fact of such time period possible for recording, the album hasn´t absolutely clear sound. Was it your intention ? Even though the album contains brilliant ideas and artwork.

Between the first recordings and the completion are seven years. Max died in these 7 years and I was losing my engine. But all the fans revived me. This is something almost noone is getting. As the followers define their gods, the fans define their bands. A god with no followers is dead. A band without fans can go on for a while, but this is like cuddling with dead ex-girlfriends. I am because people need me to be. Worship is more than I can control.

Yes I wanted it to sound CD-like and rough alike. Back to the playful chaos of the past, with more heaviness and a big atmosphere. I am never fully content, and you can always improve, but I think I have done something right obviously or how do you get an average rating of 90% and up?

3. I feel some sensible influences from your second band Beyond the Void in some of the compositions, when I am listening your last full-lenght album. Do you think, that this is an appropriate connection ?

Well this is me doing sad music. One is sad and very loud and slow, the other is sad and something faster and more energetic. I honour a lot of musical styles, and everyone that listens to only one specific sound all of his life is either a cow or a drone.

4. Why did leave out french and german language from your lyrics ? They was so perfect on “Last Tape Before Doomsday”.

Actually there is French in Max’s vocals on Dooom., but I needed the story to be understandable as a whole. I truly have friends worldwide (no bragging here, it’s just like that) and I don’t want them to miss part of the story because of fucking language barriers. I will return to multi-languaged in the future, no fear.

5. The album contains also the cover track of Solitude Aeternus´s song – Mirror of Sorrow. What does it mean to you, that you made a cover of it ? Was Solitude Aeternus that ones who influenced you in your beginnings ? What are the other bands which inspired you ?

Yes, Mirror of Sorrow, I don’t know where all people read that, but it´s wrong spelling (Mirrow of Souls for example) is everywhere on the internet, I don’t know why all those pirate fucker sites can’t spell it right. My favorite misspelling is clearly (instead of Graveyard Horizon) Gravey and Horizon, hello? Am I fucking Thanks Giving? This just proves illegal uploaders have tiny dicks. Somewhere in the early nineties, Satachrist played that song to me and that was it, I knew I loved doom metal. So much feeling. I would never have joined in Max’s doom band idea if it hasn’t been for that song. And the lyrics almost perfectly fit right into my story. I wanted to cover it, I have the official ok by Solitude, but I will never reach the original's level of emotion of course, I settled on a bleak worshippy tribute.

6. “Doom” is the second continuation of your “apocalyptic concept”. Could you explain us it´s whole idea ?

“Last CD Before Doomsday” was obviously an obscure thing happening before the end of the world. No concept, really, but personally, angry, emotional words by Max and me. I took some threads of that, some allusions, and wrote them to a story (“Dooom”) happening AFTER the end of the world. A Jesus-parallel-story about the cycle of life and death, of false belief and sacrifice, and the dangerous stupidity of mankind and religion.

7. So the only one “apocalyptic”, in the concrete “post-apocalyptic” album remains. Do you consider it as the future end of Worship ? When we should expect its release and what will you bring to us with this album ?

Dooom is my post-apocalyptic album. I won't tell you where I am heading with the next one yet.

I hope I will never end. I am not Max. I want to stop aging, never to die, doing what I love (music) as long and as often as I can. As long people enjoy my horrible crap they call art, I can continue, maybe some day all the time! If I do one album a year, and live of insects, I can stop working. This plan needs some revising, obviously.

8. But before this album, which will be a part of previously mentioned trilogy, you´re planning to release some split albums. Could you tell us more about them ?

Actually I have 2 EPs which I want to record, and something special in mind. I am also gathering ideas for the next album and I have some good parts already.

9. Also some live gigs are planned for this year. One of them will be in Czech Republic. Are you looking forward ? What do you expect from all this concert, especially from that in Czech Rep. ?

I had some live gigs without enough preparation, so I have to prove that we kill live this time. My news guys make my life easy, everyone who plays on stage with Worship also plays with Beyond The Void, including my session guys Claus and Dominik, and they are just top musicians I trust completely. Of course I am looking forward, we have such wild gigs ahead.

10. Lets get back to the past. The things after Max´s “pass away” has changed so rapidly in the background of Worship. Is nowadays Worship about something different, than it was before ? Something has to change, if you consider your second band “Beyond the Void” as your main priority. Or was it like this always ?

Worship was always a project because it was 2 people. You can never rehearse like a real band or tour with that line-up. Worship is 2 years older than Beyond The Void. Don’t ask me about priorities, priority today is what can’t wait until tomorrow. I need both bands to live.

11. Max as a musician means a lot to many people. But as a person he was highly controversial. I know, that this is not best remembrance on him, but he was many times connected with extremism. Don´t you think that it threw bad light upon Worship ? Do you think, that nowadays Worship has some cult status because of his suicide ?

I certainly had an effect. Who would claim otherwise? I am not stupid. Am I Nirvana of Doom? Who cares as long as some attention allows me to make records that are being actually listened to. I wouldn’t want to be universally broken and in huge debts for music that only I care for.

12. Thanks for your will to make this interview. I wish you only the best and hopefully we will meet at the concert in Czech rep.

Thank you for your patience. Yes I hope we will have a nice chat there, see you.
