Interview with Blutklinge

1. Greetings !
I have one personal question on you - How do you feel after releasing a pretty good reviewed album all over the world ? I guess you are happy about that, but what..s next ? You don..t have to be modest.

I'm very content with this release and the label did a very nice job. No problems at all or any delays. Well, the next release will be a split with Sterbeklang. Most tracks are already finished and I hope that it will be released this summer. I am also rehearsing a bit for a new album. Album or EP, we'll see. But I can't say in what direction it'll go but you can except something weird and new.

2. I have to confess, that when I was listening to your new album for the first time, I absolutely didn..t realise that there..re no vocals at all. I..d just focused on all that wonderful melodies, so I noticed it as late as a friend of mine told me that she minds it. Did you experience something like that before ? Or did anybody told you something similar about your album ?

Let me say it that way. Noone was grumping about the fact that the album is overall just intrumental. I think they accepted it as it is and I know that someone said that certain parts (or songs) are very post rock like. I find that very amusing because at the time I wrote that material I never ever heard post rock. It came completly naturally.

3. What‘s the idea behind not involving a vocal in 90% of your music ? Is it unnecessary, not so good, inappropriate, .. ?

I just wanted to focus on the music and I simply noticed that vocals wouldn't fit here. The atmosphere was just perfect and I think if I would have added lyrics and vocals the atmosphere would have been completly different. Or maybe I'm really transforming into a "post" genre, who knows? But you can be sure that this decision wasn't an accident, haha.

4. What‘s the concept of Blutklinge ? Otherwise, the topic of your debut album ? I was thinking about what bind together all of your songs.

The album concept is about person X who HAS to live a normal life in society. It's not his or her choice to do so and this charakter analyses all aspects of his life and he comes to certain conclusions. So it's the "start situation" in the modern society and here you can set yourself in the music. Of course I've got my own interpretation because I've got certain feelings connected to the music and the music is the only source for that, there aren't lyrics that can give you a direction. It's a very melancholic, nostalgic and sometimes aggressive feeling and even sometimes very beautiful. So you should simply feel how person X lives through his or her day. Maybe he's an old, mental-ill, rejected man who can't feel love for his own life or for another person, and dreams about feelings he can't reach you know? There are so many stories, so many reasons. So in very simple words: The album is about life! Of course in a rather dark light...

5. You dimly indicated the direction of your new album. Could we understand it in that way, that your recent genre interpretation is too tight for you ? Will be your effort focused on some kind of proposal for your listeners with various fusions of your past production ? Or is it gonna be something totally new under the name of Blutklinge ?

Well, you can call it what you want, genre names are not very important for me. I love bands like BLUT AUS NORD or DHG, they are creating something new out of the "black metal roots". They are developing and I don't want to make album after album with the same style or feeling. Every men is developing (or should be) and my music is a reflection of myself. So it will develop, too.

6. I suppose, that you recorded all your musical stuff at home. Sound would be corresponding to it (on the other hand - in these times, there are miracles happening with „home studios“). Aren..t you planning some kind of a change for the future ? For example a live drummer ?

I have the option to record in a studio with a session drummer now. So, lets see... If there'll be somthing "live", I'm gonna announce it...

7. The most recognizing signs of Blutklinge are outstanding melodies. There..s no track without them, vice-versa they are graduating during the album. Personally I really love music with wonderful melodies, separately in black metal. What..s your motivation in creating such an expressive and personal compositions ?

My motivation is life. Very simple! Haha! No, I mean I am not recording stuff with the intention "okay, I have to make Black Metal and Black metal sounds like Darkthrone, Mayhem etc. So I have to play the same". When you are very young you have some intentions like that but as I said you develop and now I simply want to express my feelings through music as best as I can.

8. I red many, many comparisons of your music .. Majority of them consider Blutklinge as an depressive band, which released a good album. I don..t think so. Conception of your „Reflection of a Bleak Mind“ seems totally different to me - neither black metal, nor depressive. I would say, that melodies do the most in creating some kind of melancholic atmosphere, because mainly these riffs charge your music with emotions. But your opinion should be the correct one.

You're right, I wouldn't title the album as "100% depressive" and I know that the album isn't old school or traditional Black Metal like Svartsyn or whatever. As I said, the intention for this album wasn't to create Black Metal or to sound like this or that, I just wanted to transform my feelings into music. Just music. And because of my influences it sounds rather Black Metal and not Punk or something else. I simply tried to do my own thing.

9. You are frenquently using many acousting moments in your music even if the low tuned guitar is dominant. Do you think, that this is important for the listener ? To feel also some reversions and not to swim in the same waters forever ?

For the concept of the album and the whole atmosphere it was very important to build in these parts and I think if you listen to the songs you'll know why and that it works in a way, or at last, I hope so!

10. I would be very pleased if the sound of your upcoming album was sounding more mature and if it was continuing in the progression you established. The musical path through the melodies isn..t bad, if it keeps the listeners attention. I cannot choose but wish you luck.

Thanks a lot, well, let's see what future brings.
