1. Greetings BLOODLINE! I'll start with a bit mediocre question, but concerning the band itself. You're not a well-known band, here in Czech republic. Could you share a few sentences about the birth of the band and what has happened in the band since the release of the debut album in 2003?
Greetings and shalom. Ain't this a bit boring question, really? Well, Bloodline was started in 1999. From 2003 until now, progression has been slow. Some line-up changes. The promotion of 'Werewolf training' was next to non-existent, so maybe that's why you don't know us too well.
2. I dare to say that for some, "Werewolf Training" became one of the most essential post-2000 Swedish recording. What do you think about it, as it's creators? Do you feel that you have contributed greatly to the Black metal scene with this album?
I still enjoy 'Werewolf training', but there are some things in the mastering and in the production which could have been improved hopefully we will be able to do so on the re-release. But the tracks are all good and carry an unhealthy vibe. And yes, I hope we contributed with some original and individual music. If you don't contribute, please ultimately end your project.
3. Four years of silence followed and many fans had surrendered their hopes for the new album. But then, you released an ambient EP which surely brought some attention. What made you to create a such recording and why it includes speech of Myron C. Fagana? Are you somehow interested in Illuminati theories?
I'm not interested in conspiracy theories at all. In my opinion, this recording was not very essential. Funny idea, though, but no one should pay for it.
4. Quite a lot of people have lost faith in you, because of your "bad" shift on the EP. Then there was a silence around the band again. I suppose that the members focused on their own projects. Or Am I wrong?
Nice to hear some critical views in an interview. As mentioned, I don't see the EP as essential and I don't think it was such a good idea to release it under the banner of Bloodline. Regarding member projects, we have all been busy, either with music or something else. I don't view music as that important, there are other things that crave my attention.
5. Let's talk about the actual album "Hate Procession". Could you elaborate about its creation? When you started to compose, what was the original vision of the album and how far have you shifted from it?
Some of the riffs and melodies are old, others are brand new. But I think we have stuck to the original concept, the writting process in bloodline is very erratic some songs are written in an hour others written in a year, the concepts for our releases are often thought out and planned in detail by me and Sasrof and then we do something completly different. However Hate Procession has followed the red line drawn out for it pretty close.
6. I would like to analyze the recording more. What is the main motif , inspiration and core of the recording? Album is interlined with various sampled speeches. Sometimes you hear Führer rambling later some insane priest. I guess that there is some connection between those samples and the album's storyline. Please, tell us more about the idea of "Hate Procession".
If you hear Adolf, you are mistaken. There are no nazi samples at all on the recording. However, the story of the album is told by its title; it follows the hate procession throughout history, which also connects with our moniker.
7. Since the debut you have shifted into more aggressive and desperate moods. Does it somehow mirror the current mentality of the band?
Interesting question. Not necesarrily, though, as one of the main tasks with completing an album is to see that the songs fit together in a suitable way. Therefore, it could easily have featured songs more in line with 'Werewolf training', but the overall impact might have been ruined. We'll see with future releases.
8. New album is pretty difficult to absorb. Not just because of its composition but also because of sounding. Both aspect are quite different from the debut. We could say that "Hate Procession" is not so orthodox, but it emphasizes distinct elements. Where do you think that the biggest difference between "Werewolf Training" and "Hate Procession" is?
The song titles, the covers and the album titles. Seriously, I think the differences are quite obvious to all. Different vocalists, different musical approaches, song lengths, riffs ... but they do still have resemblences so that you hear it's the same band.
9. You style has it's own characteristic marks. Nowadays it is quite tough to create a truly original album, which is not similar to other bands and it may even become influencing for others. But I want to ask you a different question. If you're interested in nowadays Black metal, which new bands you see as imposing? Do you have some favourite bands in current scene and if yes, why do you like them?
Not really. I could mention Darkestrah and Primordial, but I don't know if either of them can be categorized as new. However, these bands do something original with both passion and conviction. Ah, I must mention Myrkgrav from Norway though. Maybe not so original, but damn good. Otherwise, there aren't any certain bands that have grabbed my attention. Sometimes I hear something good, but it's seldom I check it out afterwards.
10. Actual line-up consists of several experienced musicians. Are the relations between members good? Are you interested in live playing?
We socialize very little. We all live in different places. I'd like to play live if the prerequisitions are good and if the managment can be trusted. In other words, I don't want to play live.
11. You have answered everything important I wanted to know. Last words are just yours. I thank for myself and the readers of MORTEMzine and I hope to hear soon from you.
Hail Tom of Finland and the 120 days of Sion.
