1. Greetings. “Last Station on the Road to Death” is finally released. I guess it is a bit too early to ask about public reception of the album but what do you personally think about it? It’s definitely a step forward…
I am really proud of that album. It a clear reflection of Hell Militia last 6 years. It might sound weird as the songs were done throughout the years, but still it stands for is supposed to. We hadn't all the time we wanted for Hell Militia, and we didn't want to fuck it up, but now that Mutiilation and Arkhon are in the abyss, we can finally give all our time to it. We were really looking for it, because this band is our very personal band, and already I have new songs..
2. Where do you think lies the greatest difference between “Canonisation of the Foul Spirit” and “Last Station…”? Personally I think that the new one is much more sinister but on the other hand it lost a bit of debut’s “necrotic filthiness”.
I believe that this one taste more bitter to me. It sounds like deceptions more than aggression. It's religious songs of course, but there is that down to earth around it. Life often tates like piss, and so does this album.
3. “Last Station…” opens with an interesting intro “Always the Same”. It is well-known that members involved in Hell Militia are not afraid of drugs. Were drugs somehow involved in music itself? Mentioned in lyrics, composing music while being high etc. By the way where did you take that intro from?
This intro comes from an american government video against drugs from the 50s or so. It is true that I believe that the shamanic experience is part of the Faith. These drugs are still in use in some parts of the world, as accompanying life or faith, either to speak to the spirits, to merge without he world or to hearth gods. The Tainos people for example were using a double snorting device and after purifying themselves puking, the frontier between the dead and the living were melting.
4. “Shoot, Knife, Strangle, Beat & Crucify” by infamous GG Allin… Some consider him to be sick fuck others glorify him. My opinion is mixed but I would definitely would like to have funeral like him, haha. What do you think about Allin and why did you choose to cover this particular song? Who’s performing gang vocals in the background of chorus?
I think that both, he is. Glorious Sick Bastard. We really wanted to make a tribute to him and the Murder Junkies. The music and lyrics are really fitting to Hell Militia. We really listen a lot to old punk music, and the choice of the cover was pretty easy. The choir wax made of me, meyhnach, arkdaemon, and Seb BsT, the sound engineer.
5. By the way, isn’t it perfectly ironic that someone born with a name Jesus Christ Allin in family of devoted Christians ends up living such “blasphemous” life?
It's very often that people born in a very extreme social surrounding will go crazy against it. Religious surroundings in particular...
6. Hell Militia is often being referred to as an “all-star” band. How do you manage to cope your other musical activities with playing in Hell Militia? As far as I know the main portion of music is done by Persecutor but still you have to find time to gather round and rehearse etc. Isn’t it sometimes too difficult to organize everything?
Not anymore, we now can focus on Hell Militia as I said. But I don't think we are an all star band, as we all have only played in underground bands, in the pure fucking French black metal way : dedicated. Awe have always rehearsed every week except when me or Dave was on Tour. But now it is like I can spend all my time working on music and my other non musical projects.
7. You toured Europe with Aosoth and Blacklodge. MkM already posted his bitter yet eligible view on tour. So how did you enjoyed the tour? Any highlights, interesting stories?
MkM is always pretty pessimistic, and even if I chose these two bands to tour with us, there had to be an opening band. You know MkM has been playing a long fucking time dedicated music, and even though Aosoth were excellent on the tour, as openers, people are not always there and in the mood already. These bands were like a tour with only comrades. Hard to tell some pieces of the tour without comrades being endangered by it. But believe me, it was the first tour of the bass player from Aosoth and he has learned it really hard and old school... Also, the tour manager couldn't refrain in a very small fight with St Vincent... Who had to finish the tour with two bones broken, and sing on a chair on the last dates..
8. I also have to ask you about Prague’s date in particular. We had plenty of black metal gigs in Czech rep. during April but from what I have attended I can say that Hell Militia/Aosoth/Blacklodge/Gorgonea Prima gig was absolutely the best of them all. Perfect definition of “Satanic Audio Violence”. How did you enjoy your stay in Prague? Since it was your last date I guess it was special somehow.
I really enjoyed playing there. There is something old school about Praha, that fits to the French scene too. We have some very close Hell Militia old supporters there, and even a fan from north Ukraine who had to save money for two months to come by bus... That was the perfect ending for that fucked up tour...
9. About the visual aspect of Hell Militia. Artworks are usually comprised of “mocking religious” collages. Who’s the author of your artwork? Also who was responsible for that mind-fucking video presentation during your’s and Blacklodge’s live performance?
I am doing the artwork for Hell Militia, as I often did for Arkhon Infaustus or Diapsiquir. The video editing is mostly done by me and S who is now part of the band as VJ. I think of Black Metal as a total art, music, vision, ideas, words.
10. Well, we are almost at the end of our interview. Could you foreshadow future plans of Hell Militia?
Yes, I have currently moving to the other side of the world, I will now spend all my time to Hell Militia. So there will be a new album in 2011.
11. Thanks you for the interview and great new album and I hope to see you again on some upcoming tour. Take care. .
Thanx for the interview and sorry for answering so late, I have been on the road a lot, and I currently answered this interview in South America. Thanx for the support and till we share a beer in Praha next time, keep it burning,
