1. Greetings to Denmark, guys! How do you feel after work on “Necro Spirituals”? Did you have any problems that affected smooth recording process?
Hellz! We’re satisfied with the outcome of course, otherwise we wouldn’t release it. It’s been finished for a while now, so it’s gonna be satisfying to release this fucker upon the feeble masses. It continues were “Contaminating” left off, preaching gospels of hate and death towards this world and giving praise to the ultimate and profound Evil. The process was not as smooth this time though, we had a lot of internal problems while mixing the album and could not agree. It took a while and a lot of bitching, but the outcome has proved to be worth the struggle.
2. From my view, new record is even more about punk, insanity and ass-kicking than “Contamining the Divine”. This is obvious from the first second, hope you agree. Sometimes, it looks like a live record! So is possible to understand the record as a “live record” than as a precise studio work?
I understand your resemblance, but it was not recorded with this intention. The energy yes, but if we wanted that live feeling, we would have approached the recording process a lot differently. We spent a lot of time in our studio, to get the right take on the songs and this is the opposite concept of a live-recording. Sometimes it is hard work that precedes what can be seen as a simple product – but if it does the trick for the listener, then we accomplished what we wanted.
3. You’re not the only one group which is using “necro” conception. What exactly this word “necro” means for you? Is this a big part of your music which will never be divided from HORNED ALMIGHTY?
Horned Almighty has used the necro term since day one. It is one of our main keywords, using it both as an inspiration and a defining term, labelling our music. For us it resembles ugly and filthy black metal, concerning the magnificence of death and evil. We do not claim to be original or innovative; we play what the fuck we want! This is our term, some may use another for our musical praise, it is not important for us.
4. Are you affected by mentioned conception in your personal lives?
Very much, it reflects what is our faith and basic guidance personally. These matters are of great concern, especially to me, and I use them to create the words I preach in our black gospels. If this was not the case, the lyrics would be meaningless and hollow.
5. Did you do something in a different way than before, when you worked on “NECRO SPIRITUALS”? Do you feel this is the most mature record you’ve ever done?
No, it is a direct continuation of “Contaminating the Divine”, musicwise. The lyrics have changed from being inspired by the Malleus Malleficarum, to being solely written by me, as in the old days. I would say the album is a perfect mix of some of our old values, from the beginning of the cult of the Horned and up until now. I would not call it matured, just perfected, now that we have the possibility to have our albums properly recorded, instead of doing it all ourselves. The writing process was fast and without delays, so we were all inspired to make this abomination come to life, without any radical new ideas that had to be tried first.
6. How long after “Contamining the Divine” did you start to compose “Necro Spirituals”? Is “Necro Spirituals” completely new album or did you use some ideas from the past?
It did not take long – soon after “Contaminating” was done, our bass player Luger left the band and after a short change over (Hellpig took over the bass duties), we started writing new material. “Sworn Divine Vengeance” was the first song to be done and it is a continuation of the last album in my opinion. Earlier we sometimes took up old riffs, but on this album, they’re all new. The gift of dark inspiration was upon us and hopefully the grand Master of obliteration will be pleased!
7. Did you compose the songs with some certain idea? I mean; to do the songs better and more interesting for live performances or something? Maybe you don’t care… Maybe there is some formula which you’re “using” during composing process.
A lot of the songs were written to be performed as a four piece, cutting down on the leads, but besides this, we did not change anything from earlier on. We are definitely using a formula, when we compose – we are quickly to find out whether it is a “Horned song” we’re doing or not. If not, we stop right away and keep the best riffs for another song. This time we spent more time than earlier, reworking some of the songs, to make sure it was us and had the exact atmosphere. We are more aware of this now, especially since we have perfected our personal style and wish to keep our black flame burning strong!
8. HORNED ALMIGHTY has the same line-up for 8 years. What is the formula for your cohesion? Are you all close friends? Is this affected your music?
Hellpig and me started in 2003, doing the demo as a two piece. Harm came shortly after and we did the 7” and first album with him. Just after the release of “Black Metal Jesus” Luger and Aries joined for a bunch of live gigs and they stayed up until last year, when Luger left the band. Hellpig and me have known each other for 16 years by now and when asking Harm to join, we knew of him, coming from the same scene. He knew Aries and we all knew Luger, so the choices were obvious. We are all closely connected and Horned Almighty is not just an act or a band, but a close entity of individuals strongly involved in the cult. I can not see this ever change, because of what we have achieved together so far, only getting stronger and stronger. .
9. Almost every record of HORNED ALMIGHTY has been released under different label. Actually you’re under Candlelight. What was to reason for moving to Candlelight and how are you satisfied with them?
All the labels we have worked with so far have been excellent and we do not regret ever signing with these great people. They definitely helped spreading our disgusting propaganda along the way. We did not have any obligations after the last album, so we contacted some labels, which we would like to collaborate with. Candlelight knew of us and it was obvious from the beginning, that this was the path to choose. So far everything is as we want it to be and we are satisfied with the cooperation.
10. Do you (or Candlelight) plan any tour as a support of your new album? I think you did not play in Czech Republic yet, am I right? Is there any possibility that this sorrowful fact will change?
We are planning our first European tour for the spring of 2011 with Glorior Belli and other great acts. This will be a great opportunity to unleash our filthy hymns of praise and death on new territories and we are of course looking forward on meeting a lot of goddamn maniacs, mocking the very existence of the rotten bastard above! No dates in the Czech Republic yet, but this may change along the way…
11. That’s pretty all from me. Thanks a lot for your time! It’s been my pleasure to make an interview with you. All the best and hope to see you one day in Czech Republic… .
Thanks for spreading the plague of the Lord beneath – Death is not the end, but merely a gateway to eternal suffering!
