1. Greetings to the SARGEIST’s camp! How are you doing right now? New CD is going to be released pretty soon so do you feel some excitement?
Hails! We’re doing alright, usual struggles with life and work, troubles finding enough time to dedicate to the Lord. We are very excited how the album will be received globally and beyond, we still think it’s the culmination of our worship.
2. There was a five-year break between “Disciple of the Heinous Path” and “Let the Devil In”. What was the reason? How you spent those 5 years? Is possible to say that you were busy with other bands so you haven’t time to SARGEIST?
We simple let the time take it’s course and waited for inspiration that would deliver us gospel stronger than anything we created previously. We could’ve tried to force the album to happen many years ago already but as always, it’s better to leave it until it’s ripe.
3. I personally heard the album, but for those who haven’t heard it yet, what the listeners can expect from SARGEIST in 2010? Is “Let the Devil In” a continuation of “Disciple of the Heinous Path” in some way, or entirely new beast?
“Let the Devil In” is SARGEIST as everyone has learned our work to be, taken one step further in every aspect yet still remaining true to the foundations of our Heinous Path.
4. The line-up hasn’t changed, was this fact positive for the final product? Did Shatraug write all the music on “Let the Devil In” or did you share your ideas together? How would you describe the process of composing music in SARGEIST?
The process is still that I am doing all the music, arranging everything together with Horns and Torog. This time we have actually added a new member Vainaya to the line-up and he took care of the four-string blasphemy according to his own vision. It was definitely a liberating experience to give him free hands.
5. I know that music for “Disciple of the Heinous Path”, which was released in 2005, has been composed many years ago, is that correct? So how about “Let the Devil In”? Did you use only new riffs and ideas?
Considering that, you could actually say it’s taken around 8 years to make “Let the Devil In” if you begin to count from when the songs were born instead of when they were released… “Let the Devil In” has only new material that was brought forth during the year of the Pig 2009.
6. Personally, I’m highly satisfied with the sound. It sounds live, loud, but yet atmospheric. Where did you record the album and how much time the recording took?
We spent a week at local studio Fantom aiming to keep our dirty sound but make it more dynamic, one step further away from being stagnated in the rehearsal room recording scheme we used to have.
7. How about lyrical side of “Let the Devil In”; is there any point that connects all songs? What message is hidden inside the songs?
The main idea of the album is in it’s title, it’s made of songs to praise and worship, conjure and curse! It’s a knife for all the cultists and adepts of the art to let the Devil in…
8. You’re still under Moribund Records, not every label will be so tolerant to wait for the release of another album 5 years. Does it mean that you are connected by something stronger than just a contract?
We are connected through a pact of satanic blood. Time has no relevance when the Lord has his voice heard.
9. Will you play live in 2010/2011? A tour would be great!
SARGEIST are performing a ritual at the Nidrosian Black Mass now in November, after that we do not know when or where will the next rites take place. We would like to go on tour but unfortunately during these times it’s not possible due to personal commitments.
10. That’s pretty all from my side, thanks a lot for your time and your new album. I personally hope that waiting for another album will be shorter. Have a great time and if there is anything you would like to say, here’s your space.
Blessed be and let the Devil in!
