1. Greetings, BLUT AUS NORD´s material used to be released by Candlelight records. With a first release of “What Once Was…” you switched to a smaller, yet dedicated label Debemur Morti. What was the reason behind this change? Do you intend to release all your future material through Debemur Morti?
We were not a band for Candlelight, we don’t tour and we are not a good band for the promotion. We are more at ease on Debemur Morti, this label is more underground and we can feel a deep passion for our music and music in general, we need this passion. Candlelight is a good label for a normal band, not for Blut Aus Nord. Whatever that may be, they allowed us to touch more people, especially in the States and this collaboration was an instructive experience. Now we know what we need. We wanted to work with a passionate label and this one is absolutely perfect, totally dedicated to its artists, nothing is more important for us.
2. Talking about labels… are there any future plans for you label Appease me…? Do you also know something about the current status of Monolithe´s album III where you were supposed to contribute with vocals?
Actually Appease Me is on stand by but we could release something during the next months and in this case we’ll start with the third opus of Monolithe. The album is recorded since a long time now (without my voice, unfortunately).
3. “What Once Was…” a series of three albums. “Liber I” a first part of series evoking the bestial onslaughts of “Fallen Angel of Doom” and “Onwards to Golgotha” is already out. Is there any concept or idea that unifies the whole series? Could you also foreshadow the possible direction of the next album and when it might see the light of a day?
It’s a serie of albums, but not only three albums. We want to use this parallel discography to releases a few records entirelly dedicated to the old Death Metal & Black Metal scenes, it’s a very pure face of Blut Aus Nord, don’t expect experimentation or (r)evolution. The next album should more death metal in the vein of old Autopsy, Incantation, Immolation, etc. but still extremely obscure and macabre. We don’t really like the actual metal scene, everything is too clean, productions are synthetic, we prefer the basic savagery of the ancients albums. You talk about „Onward To Golgotha“ and you are right, this example is just perfect, the sound of this masterpiece is so obscure, heavy, deep...the quintessence of death metal.
4. It has been 10 years since the original release of “The Mystical beast of Rebellion” – The first version reeks of darkness same as the pitch black pages of the original booklet. However the re-edition is dignified by a great looking artwork and offers three new songs. Why do you think that “The Mystical Beast…” deserves such special treatment?
The album was hard to find, especially in the States so we have decided to re-release it. Void (the manager of Debemur Morti) was very interested by the idea but we wanted to propose something great, not just a reedition with an useless bonus (like old demos or shitty unreleased tracks). Finally we have decided to compose a second album, three new chapters 7,7 & 7. The result is very interesting, a new interpretation of the same concept and feeling ten years later, very different on the musical plan but the atmosphere is the same, maybe darker. We are very satisfied with the result, the digipack with the new artwork is great and the double album is extremely dense, a massive piece of dark art. Usefull reedition.
5. However both fresh re-releases of “The Mystical Beast…” and “Ultima Thuleé” came out in a humble run of 250 pieces. Why such limitation? Also what about the Planned reissue of “The Work Which Transforms God”?
Yes we plan to release a vinyl edition of The Work Wich Transforms God and Memoria Vetusta I, probably in 2011, both with a new artwork. Concerning the limitation you should ask to the label but us and them were very surprised by the sucess of these reeditions, all the stock was sold in a few days.
6. Three new tracks accompanying the original tracks of “The Mystical Beast…” are magnificent. Completely different yet evoking very similar atmosphere. You could easily release those songs as an individual album. Can we expect that one day BLUT AUS NORD might explore this doomy direction more elaborately?
Sure, it was a real pleasure to compose and play it and we’ll probably work in this direction on a future album. We like, and we need, to explore new possibilities and this one is particulary interesting. We already have a few ideas about it..

7. “777” - Project announced long ago finally seems to be near. Your website tells us about three titles “Cosmosophy”, “Sect(s)”, Desanctification, plus an approximate date of release (?). Can we really look forward to three new releases this year? Could you also tease us a little with some kind of description or aims of this project?
We have just finished the recording of the first album, the first part of a conceptual trilogy entitled 777. Effectively 3 albums will be released this year, the first one “777-Sect(s)” in april, the second “777-The Desanctification” in September and the third “777-Cosmosophy” in November. This trilogy is a very exciting project, it allows us to cover a very large musical sphere. “– Sect(s)” is not really far from “The Work Which Transforms God” with more mechanical / industrial parts. A mix between crazy haunted riffs, eeries melodies, blast & massive beats and hypnotic patterns. It’s a very “complete” album. “The Desanctification” and “Cosmosophy” will be different, as usual…
This trilogy is a concept about the consequences of the progressive negation of the pure instinct in favour of this fear generated by the time. We create this time and we undergo this time.
8. „Lighteater“ – How long has it been since the announcement of this project? Does it still evolves hidden from ears of public or has this project been cancelled and perhaps absorbed by some other band of yours?
We will work on Lighteater in 2012, not before.
9. What about other known projects of yours? The Eye, Children of Maäni and Karras? In some past interview you mentioned a possible new release from The Eye.
Exactly, i‘ like to release a new album with The Eye, not this year but why not in 2012. Concerning Chlidren Of Maani and Karras, both are probably definitively dead.
10. BLUT AUS NORD have explored vast areas of extreme metal music often breaking boundaries. Do you believe that there is still an area for evolution? That in next 10 years you will still be able to create original and honest music? Or do you think that in order to progress further you will be forced to abandon the realms of metal music?
I sincerely think that Black Metal is a limitless field of expression, i don’t talk about metal music but about this particular black metal feeling, nevermind the form. For example “MoRT” was like a limit a few months / years ago in terms of musical obscurity but now this limit is obsolete and I know that we’ll compose something worst in the future.“MoRT” become a step towards another limit…and this limit will become a new step. It’s the same thing for all our albums, it allows us to work in a lot of different musical directions; This Art is limitless, it’s an endless quest.
11. It is believed that BLUT AUS NORD is an entity comprised of three individuals with you Vindsval being band´s centrepiece. From time to time a guest musician finds his or hers way into your ranks. Collaboration with The Axis of Perdition was once in talks in a few interviews. Are there any other personalities you would love to work with? It is merely a fan wish but I have always dreamt of something like BAN featuring Diamanda Galás, haha.
In fact, we would love to work with Diamanda Galas !!! We think about this collaboration since a very long time. I would like to write a special album for her voice, the most haunted of the musical history, maybe one day...who knows . I also would like to work with Trey Azagthoth or Dälek.
12. Lyrical side of BLUT AUS NORD has always been a bit obscure. Lack of lyric sheets or booklets offering only short cryptic messages often written in French. Haven´t you thought about being a bit more open or you simply want fans to make an effort and create their own picture of what BAN´s lyrics may be about?
We like to give a few elements in our albums, no more. We like the obscurity, the abstraction. The music of Blut Aus Nord is the only important thing, the rest is just a support, something personnal. So we give a few keys for the most curious listeners.

13. However I have been translating the liner and contemplating about ideas presented and came to a conclusion that there is probably not a single unifying ideology behind BAN´s music. It is obvious that with every release you pursue different musical path so does this apply to lyrics as well? Or is it just me who fails to see the full picture?
All our lirycs, texts, liner notes are written with the same occult & philosophical intentions, since the beginning. Different visions, or approaches of the same goal.
14. What convinced you to participate in split releases with “Rebirth of Nefast” and “Way to End”? Can you give us any specific information about these releases and your possible sounding?
We just like both bands and it is the opportunity to compose new material (we can’t stop to compose). All is already recorded but the splits won’t be released before the next year. Our part of the split with Rebirth of Nefast is in the progressive vein of Memoria Vetusta II, our work with Way To End is more ethereal with a little Pink Floyd influence.
15. We are getting close to an end. Has anything within realms of literature, music or cinematography caught your interest?
Void sent me the new album of Infestus (“Ex Ist”) a few days ago (not released yet), and I can’t stop listening to it since three days, this band is incredibly talentuous and this album is a great piece of Black Metal.
I read a lot of books about eastern philosophies, books about occultism and traditions around the world, I like to observe the different interpretations of the Universe, time and life.
16. Thank you for your answers and time. If you think that something has been forgotten or simply you would like to say something to fans feel free to add. Take care.
Thank you for your support !
