1. In the recent years I did not notice any remarkable new black metal act hailing from Italy, in case I except FIDES INVERSA. What is the black metal situation in your country like? If you pay at least some attention to it...?

I think that italian black metal bands have always been recognised for their bad taste, vainglory and in lots of cases to seem just a parody. But there are a few great project I sincerely respect and appreciate. I think that nowadays the situation is quite the same everywhere, but I do not use to waste my time despising, I prefer to search something inspiring in art.

2. You are a young band which which was established in 2006, yet you did not release any material right after that (which tends to be a kind of habit) but waited three years. What was the reason?

There was no necessity to waste time and energies into an incomplete work. It was an instinctive process that brought me to channell all the creative forces into the conception of a full opus which had to be a full-lenght album. OmegaAD's support and help was fundamental to reach a satisfying and exhaustive conclusion and get it concrete.

3. Under what cirumstaces was the band born, what was the initial intention, the intended message? How do you see the future direction of FIDES INVERSA, if you cast about these things?

The project comes to life as an extremely individual idea in the eyes of the conceptual aspect, since it is the mirror of a personal spiritual and philosophical iter, aiming to the fulfillment of the so called "self deification". Fides Inversa is the inversion of the whole cosmic paradigm, not only the inversion of the judeo-christian faith, aiming to the deconstruction of being. As you can imagine the idea of Death is omnipresent and it has to be seen as the Void that attracts into the chaotic spiral. That is not only the negation of what exists, but the state in which everything is complete.

This first album hides what I think is the key to Virtue, the way to prepare the spirit to laugh in front of phisical death and sing an hymn of glory to the scythe.

Future? Future is ours and the time to turn over the sense at all will arrive again and again.

4. Now, let's talk about your debut for a while. Even though it was released in the last months of 2009, it still can seem new to a lot of the listeners, as they might have not gotten to your band yet. Is there any particular reason why all the four compositions are over ten minutes long? Did this length come out naturally or was it your creative intention?

I had the need to express various moments of the lyrics through music, so it was natural to develop the songs in a consequential structure and, since the album fallows this flux and is direct espression of the same complexity, you should see each track as a chapter of the same work with a beginning and a conclusion, not as a single psalm.

5. Don't you think that especially in black metal the excessive length can be more of a problem in case the band is not able to incorporate enough ides into the compositions?

Probably not if you think that black metal is feeling and who cares about the length of a composition? There could be variations on a theme or simply an hypnotical flux of sound. Anyway, as you told, the result is boring only in absence of ideas.


6. I would say that the lyrics of the album had to take quite a lot of time to write. I would also say that you place strong emphasis on the lyrical side of FIDES INVERSA. Is it so? What is the main idea permeating the album, or even connecting it as a concept?

The title of the album could be translated into "only virtue could round off the blade of the deadly scythe" so, only through Virtue, man could exceed the earthly limit imposed by the demiurge with phisical death. Each track illustrates the sense that brings to the victory of this spiritual battle. Virtue resides into inversion and it brings to the divine algolagnia, the great spiritual coronation. Every single particle of our being should be consacrated to the deconstruction of paradigms.

7. I feel that your creation is more "story-like" instead of being "fragment-based", which is a way that many bands today seem to take. So, therein, you quite "jut out from the crowd". Maybe a bit strange question, but - do you devote a lot of your time to literature?

Yes, I simply devote lot of my time coltivating knowledge. Art is a certain font of knowledge in each form it is expressed and literature is probably the greater.

8. When talking about your sound, one can definitely say that you have chosen quite untypical sound which listener can hardly interchange with any other band. How was the recording process, did you do the producing job of the album yourself or with a help of a pro?

A professional producer made the whole mix and mastering under our direction, since the idea of the sound was quinte clear from the beginning. To channel the right forces we need to record in various moments with eerie atmosphere around and inside.

9. As you do not use keyboards, any kind of atmospherical "patches" etc, I am sure it was not easy to create four this long compositions in the way so that they would not be anyhow boring. How does your composing process work? Is it more beneficial for you to compose as a duo?

The "duo" really exists during the recordings only and it is helpful so that we can cooperate to have a succesful result. The conception of the work happens in a total individual manner and every influence is led into a spiritual spiral of fanatical madness where control is banned.

10. If you play live, how do you solve the vocals? I ask as I read in the band info that Omega A.D. both plays the drums and sings...?

As you read, he contemporaneously plays drums and sings. He's totally capable of doing so, and this choice does not ruin in any way the final result of the show. He's helped by the backing vocals of our live bass player so that the impact could sound various and solid.

11. Who is the author of the perfect booklet of your debut?

The whole visual aspect has been designed by Mortuus (from Marduk and Funeral Mist) who, as you can see, is a 360 degrees artist. He perfectly rendered, in every single detail, the greatness of the work and, since he was totally free, has doubly satisfied my idea of the final result.


12. Now, a bit about the present/future - what are the future plans for FIDES INVERSA? Are you planning a second album, more live concerts, anything interesting?

At the moment my first interest is to give birth to a second born who has just been conceived. The time has come and the second album is ready to be recorded. The process was extremely suffering and I desire a great spread of blood, sweat and tears in front of an opus of such zealotry and madness.

We'll perform a special live show next summer at the historical Under the Black Sun festival in Berlin and it surely will be a macabre ritual. Be there.
