Interview with Iperyt (Classic interviews)

1. Salutes to the neighbouring Poland! I am glad I can interview you. I guess it is the first interview for a Czech zine. How do you do?

Hi there! Yes it's the first interview for your country. Please to meet you! I'm fine and ready to go.

2. Let’s skip the question about biography and previous stuff and focus on an actual recording. Well it has been five years since the previous album so I am not the only one who is pleased. What have the responses been so far?

Thanks! So far the feedback is quite good. I mostly hear and read positive opinions so I think we did a good job. Of course, as you noticed, we were absent for five years so some peoples' appetites were heated maybe too much and the expectations were too high, so for them anything we would record probably wouldn't be enough. But in general we're really ok with the reviews, people seem to enjoy NSOG and that's the most important thing.

3. “No State of Grace” was announced 2-3 years ago if I’m not mistaken. Anyway the new album was eagerly awaited and waiting seemed to be endless. What was the cause of the delay?

Well the main reason for the delay were our problems with former label Agonia Records. For quite a long time we couldn't find our common ground and decide what and how to do it. With time it got even more complicated with a lot of misunderstandings. Because of that we were unable to finish and release the album. Finally we left Agonia and started cooperating with Witching Hour Prods. And thanks to this we're back in the business and the album is finally out.

4. What about the announced split with Amok? The song “Enter Baal” is still present on your myspace. Is this split going to happen eventually? Or it has been cancelled and the unreleased material will be released in a form of EP?

Well – this is the same story as with the album. All due to the problems with Agonia Records. We as well as Amok couldn't find a solution for that. Right now we have a full length so no plans to go with another EP, but maybe in future there will be a chance to release this stuff. Some good ideas in these tracks.

5. Why did you decided to release the album by yourself? Haven’t you been satisfied with Agonia records? Doesn’t it have some negative influence on promotion or availability of the album?

As I have already told you there were weird problems with Agonia and we had to leave the label to continue our work. We decided it will be the best solution to do it ourselves so we created Iperyt Prod. We knew we would manage the recordings and lets call it artistic part of the business, but the distro and promotion were another pair of shoes. Fortunately we found Witching Hour Prods and everything started to look more real. Thanks to them there shouldn't be any problem with the availability, promotion and so on. We're very pleased so far.

6. When I played “Particular Hatred” to someone they were always terrified by the terror of it. Now with the new album the same people do not have that problem. Even “Totalitarian Love Pulse” was a bit “calmer” and more elaborated. There is less of insanity and terror on the other hand you focus more on the musical side. The new album seems to be the most accessible and melodic. Do you consider this to be a natural evolution?

No. We prefer to call it just our ideas. I mean with NSOG we wanted to compose more “metal-orientated” album. I'm talking about riffs, arrangement and even the drum machine playing in a more common way. This time we wanted more riffs, maybe not melody but kind of the atmosphere, maybe more 'in your face sound”. I think we have an energetic high octane album you can bang your head to and still when you drive your amplifier you'll crush your neighbourhood haha. But I wouldn't call it 'evolution'. Because for example right now I visit noize gigs, or more underground speedcore parties, so I think the next album will be completely different in a matter of inspiration and concept.

7. Anyway I have a feeling that one day you will focus on creating the most savage recording ever – an essence of audio terrorism. No melodies, only vicious sonic attack. Am I right?

Ha ha, who knows. There is a lot of what you call audio terrorism right now in the music. Check out power electronics, power noize, splitter and so on. But for me for example power electronics lacks rhythm, splitter lacks the venom etc. So we for sure will try to find our own point of view on musical insanity...

8. What about lyrics? Even there is an evident evolution from a simple “…die bitch, die motherfucker…” to a more elaborated themes. Is there any difference between writing of lyrics now and 6 years ago?

Well, maybe because “Particular Hatred” was written by me and now lyrics are prepared by People Hater and his more of an poet than I am : ) But of course – People Hater still improves his skills and for me it's a sheer joy to read them or to listen to them. Nihilistic emotions really at best!

9. But still your music is permeated by hatred, war and violence. One might ask himself if you are 100% serious about it or that you write “extreme” lyrics just for the sake of it and adding a bit of pitch-black humour. What do you think?

I think one can find a few levels of the lyrical part and the whole concept. You can just stop with a “extreme lyrics for extreme sound”. But you can dive deeper with the whole creative nihilism concept. Than it's a declaration of war on a world as you know it. The denial of your mental kind of slavery or limitation. We're probably “it's the end of the world as we know it but I feel fine' kind of typos ha ha. We don't want to improve the world. As Rambo said: “Fuck the world”. You can only improve yourself, not anything else. And now we should go deeper into philosophy... But let the listener be a judge and choose for himself : )

10. What about the live performances? Do you actively play outside of Poland and do you plan to tour in order to promote the new album? Do you still have problems with promoters and certain organizations because of your “hateful orientation”?

Right now we are rehearsing intensively and hope to play some gigs in Fall. Some problems may arise but we don't think about it right now. Live shows are kind of celebrations so it's really nice to do them. We hope to start again at the end of the year.

11. What do you think about the contemporary Polish scene? Personally I think that plenty of new and good bands are appearing lately. Do you care about the polish scene?

Of course we do! We've got a lot of good bands, lot of good stuff and albums. It is really cool to listen to a good music and really challenging to function in such a creative environment. I think polish metal scene is strong and very inspiring.

12. Why did you choose the name IPERYT by the way?

The silent murderer. Comes and takes human life. It is unstoppable and doesn't ask questions. I think it is a good analogy : )

13. The last question is usually for the bands to add anything they would like to. If you have a message for a Czech audience feel free to write it here.

We had an opportunity to play in your country and it was a great experience so we hope to come back and give a good performance again! And on my private side: Get out of your comfort zone. Hail All Discordia!

14. Thank you for your time gentlemen. Take care.

Thanks for the interview! Good luck with your plans. Regards!
