1. Hell-o. „The Devil´s Music“ is out and many activities are joined to it. You certainly get many responses and reviews, which dominant? What difference do you see in this interval after release „Black Metal Jesus“ and „The Devil´s Music“? Do you feel more interest of the band?
Hellz Mortem ‘Zine. We have so far received quite alot positive reviews for „The Devils Music“, yes and we are of course satisfied with the oppinions expressed in them. This said though, we do not make music to please anyone but ourselves, so for us negative reviews, which there have also been a few of, are indifferent. It is our second release, and we got some attention with the first one, mainly because of the title. But I think people are curious to see what we will do each time, thats why the knowledge of our existence expands.
2. Did you change system of work by composing and searching new material? Did you fixate on any compact theme or album put the finishing touches to „by running“? I think, that this album is the most advanced enterprise of Horned Almighty.
The main difference in writing the new album from the last one, is the increase of members in the band. Hellpig wrote almost all of the “Black metal jesus“ material and since then Luger and Aries have joined and they contribute with material as well. This can only change the outcome of the music and sound, when more people add to the filthy stew. Lyrically I tried to create an overall theme for the entire album, making all the songs deal with the Devil and his deeds – and since this often concerns death and damnation, the result was clear.
3. What is inspectional, is acceleration and addition of bass. And just thanks to it, music of Horned Almighty arrived at first-class black´n´roll (anyone could say punk-black metal :-)) and unit sounds more „perverse“...that changes are certainly linked with line-up, that I want to speak about in the next answer. So, I have seen war videoclip, also gently tuned with satanist theme...Do you prepare videoclip to new album? And, if yes, what will be the theme?
Black n‘ roll is the term for our music we hear the most yes, and it does’nt really bother us. They could call it garage, indie or whatever, I don’t care. There are so many different variations of black metal now, that some people find it necessary to categorize within the genre – I just call it black metal. We have talked about doing a video for the new album, the main title to be precise. It was to take place in our rehearsal room, which is really shitty and filthy and the the camera would spin around really fast, while we were playing the song. Then you would see dead junkies and people committing suicide in the corners and shit like that – really goddamn ugly. Unfortunately did our former collaboration partners not have the time to shoot the video and the plans got sacked. Now there is no idea in making a video, since the album has been out for half a year. But maybe for our next release, we will do something.
4. New album was recorded in relatively changed line-up against „Black Metal Jesus“. Where occured to „mistake“, that it had to change? Did in your opinion this change bring desirable end?
We always wanted to expand the cult of Horned Almighty, since it increases the possibilities of performing live, which is one of our main agendas. Aries and Luger came to play with us pretty soon after eachother, mainly because we had some gigs coming up and up untill then we had to borrow a session bass player or play without the bass. We are today a tight fit unit, which have the same goal, namely to perform the Devil’s music – preferrably as filthy and ugly as possible! Hail Satan!
5. In what you search just maximum power of today´s Horned Almighty? And at what moments from „The Devil´s Music“ are you really proud?
I interpret your question as what the fuel is that drives us – our goal is to make fucking black metal, which is heavy as fuck. Nothing more, nothing less. We are not here to dictate our way of life upon the masses, but to spread the gospel that is Him through our way of worship – which is in musical form. How people receive it, could’nt care me less... I have several favorite parts on TDM, especially psalms like “Glorious Horror“ and “To Despise the Life“ makes me want to vomit – in the good way.
6. You bet on discreteness of songs, often changes of rhymes and also „more modern“ procedures. What is you opinion on that bands, which are famous for that, they about 10 minutes still scratch in the same speed same melody? :-)
I am not a fan of music that is too monotonous – I simply find it boring. I do occasionally listen to the more depressive kind of black metal, but nothing can beat a fucking catchy riff with some pounding drums and hell pitched vocals upon it. Atleast not in my bible.
7. Of the new album also partook guests. Could you clear up their function and also give reasons for, why you turned to this resolution?
Since our second release we have had friends of ours participate on our releases. They are totally unknown to the public and the metal scene for that matter, but it is our way of dealing with the entire “guest-participation“ prostitution which is everywhere these days. We are a part of a huge metal collective where we come from and have alot of followers who finds our music attractive. For us it is only natural that they contribute to our efforts. On TDM, we have a true hellbred rock n‘ roll musician, who eats, drinks and piss shit for a living, playing a kick ass solo on a song for example. On another song, called “Forest of Bones“, we have a guy called Necrolaisen singing on as well, since he was there when the song was written 4 years ago and he always loved it – thats why.
8. Can we in the future expect similar recording, which you made with Sargeist? Aren´t you going to note any of concerts and release live album? Or you plan to concentrate only on udepreciated enterprises?
Hopefully not! I think the songs are damn great on the split release, but the production stinks to heaven high. Fortunately we are getting better each album, when it comes to the recording, which we always do in our own studio, called Vomit! We are working on a new split at the moment, which is soon to be recorded, but the sound will be much more like it was on TDM. We have no live album plans, since I hate them. There is no idea in releasing songs that sounds like shit, compared to the ones released on an album. Maybe we will do a dvd one day, since we have a fucking lot of recorded material from gigs, in the studio and so on. But nothing is planned yet.
9. Sweden, Norway, Finland...All these lands are closely associated with significant black metal names. Denmark stays like behind imaginary line. Why this? Which clubs do you recommend to hearer, who don´t know lot about Danish scene? From bands, which I listen to, I can name only Nortt and just Horned Almighty...
Yes, Denmark is very much behind when it comes to black metal – and metal in general. This has it good effects too though, since it keeps us from having alot of shitty bands, like the other scandinavian countries has. There are a few other names around, which anybody can find on the metal archives if they search.
10. It´s really hard find some band, which you are affected by. Despite it, everyone is affected by something, someone...subconsciously or outright. So, how it´s by Horned Almighty?
Earlier we were resembled to Darkthrone and now with the new album, people say we sound like Impaled Nazarene. Darkthrone is of course a huge influence, since they are the true kings of black metal, but we do not try to copy them. We all have very different approaches to the music, but we all like bands like Gorgoroth and Motorhead, so if you combine these two styles, then you might have a small idea of what inspires us. But we have our own unique style I would say and it keeps getting more and more appearant for each release.
11. Did to you sometimes happened, that on the concert „whisper“ about you, that you have something in common with national socialism? Today´s fans are really oversensitive on the bands, where people effecting provocatively. For example, when on the platform enters pentad in congenial montage...Nevertheless, how you are off with image? Is it chief of performing? Do you try to permutate it?
We have heard people talking of this yes and also had some concerts banned in Germany and Holland by some anti fascist groups. It is mainly because of our appearance, since we all have shaved heads – this though has nothing to do with our political beliefs, since we are NOT a political band. Every member have had long hair in the past, but we all got tired of it eventually and shaved it off. That’s it. I am no follower of the NSBM scene and find it narrowminded and childish.
12. It seems, that you found quality label, satisfaction is on both sides. Are you going to cooperate with Infernus Rex also in the future?
So far we have been very satisfied with InfernusRex yes, since he has done everything that he said he would. We are only signed for one album at the time, so who’s gonna release the next is not known yet. But it could be InfernusRex for sure.
13. Do you remember, which metal album you bought as the first one?
I think it was eather Alice Coopers “Thrash“ or Iron Maiden “Killers“.... I’m no sure.
14. Is there something, what hamper you on today´s metal, black metal scene?
Yes, a lot of things. Too many things to mention, but mainly that people whine on the internet too much. It’s a pain to watch.
15. What means for you to much chanting satanism?
Horned Almighty is about devil worshipping, so this is also what I preach.
16. What means for you in your life the biggest relexation? How you relax? Do you have any favourite place in natural scenery, where you go? In Denmark nature must be beautiful...
Denmark is a flat boring country, where only the forests contribute to anything slightly appealing. When I relax, I drink a shitload of booze and listen to goddamn metal.
