Interview with Blodsrit (Classic interviews)

1. Hi! I could begin a little untraditional and I could hold up above covers of Your albums. Themes were always peculiar, it comes to me, that novelty´s cover is a little simpler, but all the more confused, but this is secondary now... I´m interested in what it shapes and which is ideological goal of new album „The Well of Light Has Finally Dried“? Have albums always a conceptual spirit?

We have been working with the Italian artist Lorenzo Mariani for the least two releases now, and we just give him guidelines to what we are after, and then he do what he knows best which is creating something dark and twisted. And I think the artwork of the albums best is described with Lorenzos own words.

Helveteshymner -"This artwork was born because the band wanted an image that could remind of the works by Theodor Kittelsen, a Norwegian artist already used by musicians like Burzum. The cover depicts some blood and some tracks coming out of a church surrounded by nature."

The Well of Light has Finally Dried -"For the second collaboration with the swedish band we wanted to search something alternative to the usual BM artworks. As for the concept album, the artwork reflects a new reality where lights has been completely defeated, with new creatures born under a new dark dimension."

2. I haven´t chance to listen whole album yet, so I can advantage only from samples... but if I will confront presented music with previous album „Helveteshymner“, where You presented yourself more agressive, then for example on „Ocularis Infernum“, then I will come to close, that novelty is again otherwhere! I feel from it such light Darkthrone feeling, compositions comes to Me more slower, but no as simple copy! How You will depict as a creator music which is on „The Well of Light Has Finally Dried“ and in which You see the biggest differents with previous production?

There are major differences between the two latest album. The latest album is dirtier than all other previous releases and has a more oldschool touch in its sound. There are several reasons for this and the choice of studio is the main reason. With Helveteshymner we spent about 2500 Euros on Soundlab Studios, whilst we for this release only had a 700 Euro budget.. And since for obvious reasons Soundlab does not exist we decided to try a Studio nearby located in a small cabin in the woods. This was also their first metalrecording ever, but I lenjoy the way it eventually turned out.

3. I will hold up above the sound... How You have it with studios? Do you always recording elsewhere and still finding optimal and autentical sound, or You like experiments?

In the case for this album we had planned to once again enter Soundlab Studios for further recordings, but a few weeks after the finalized mixing of Helveteshymner Mieszco who was in charge of the studio died in the asian Tsunami. So the reason for not returning there is simply because of that. And with the earlier albums we have entered the studios that we have been proposed to. On Ocularis Infernum for example, our label at that time, Adipocere Records wanted us to come down to France for a small tour and we combined it with a French studio that they wee in contact with. It was an interesting experience, but from now on we prefer to record in studios where language is no problem..

4. Only such insertion...Lyrics are in native language, if I don´t mistake, what constrain You for English album´s title? In my opinion it will be more pleasanter to keep all together... But it is true, that You pretty penetrate languages and it is not pity...

We write alot of lyrics, some in Swedish and some in English. Some lyrics sounds extremely better if they are told in our native tounge than they do in English, so we use them as they are created. We have no boundaries to what we create.. This last recording had mostly swedish lyrics, but if you look at Helveteshymner I think most is in english if I remember it correctly..

5. You little remit in number of compositions, why? You conveyed what You want and end, or inventions lack? I don´t say, that 6 compisitions is few, but...

Hmm.. There has been a huge misunderstanding with this release.. When we spoke with Miriquidi we said that we had enough material to fill up a mini-Cd. So when we recorded it we were of the opinion that we made a long mini to provide the world with. I have no clue to why it has been marketed as a fullenght-cd though. It is absolutely not because a lack of inventions. It was rather the lack of budget that stopped us from having more time in the studio...

6. After some time it comes to changing publisher. Which was reason and for how long are You subscribed at Miriquidi Productions?

Yeah, as many might know Adipocere have stopped their label activities. So when we were playing a gig that Miriquidi were responsible for we agreed to release something for them. I think we have an open contract. So time will tell if we will release our next album on Miriquidi or if we will have it released by some other label. Time will tell.. We have all options open, so if any label are interested they can feel free to send us their proposals.

7. On the Blodsrit´s quality has certainly influence also stability of line-up, which is really very imposing. It looks like You are big friends and You don´t put dagger into shoulders, how it is more freguented nowadays... How You look on this?

We have had a stable line-up throughout the years simply because we hava all known each other for several years before starting bands together. We live in a rather small town, so metalpeople kind of know eachother very well and everyone grew up playing in various constellations and bands. Blodsrit was a one-man creation for a long while until we started getting propositions for livegigs and further albums. The only one that has left Blodsrit was our former bassplayer, and that was because he wanted to focus more on his part of Paganizer instead... But we still drink loads of beers together so there are no hard feelings involved...

8. Some year has expired since the days of videoclip to composition „The Glorious Rise of the Flames“ from album „Ocularis Infernum“, do You speculate about his younger brother? Personally I will confess, that composition and videoclip imponated me, though I don´t partial to similar gothic crap :-).

The video was filmed during our tour throughout France in 2002. It was a guy that asked us if it was ok for him to make a video for us for free and we agreed to this. The idea and the complete video is all his creation. Anyhow we are satisfied with the work that he did for us. Maybe I personally would have wanted more nudity.. She looks rather nice.. hehe

9. Mainly from album „Helveteshymmer“ was clearly heared that You come from north. Sweden school isn´t renounce... Did You want point by this way, or it was only natural and spontaneous thing? Could You prove gauge which way You will (musically) move in the future? If You will return to melodical waters „Ocularis Infernum“ or You will continue in enthroned „trend“?

Everything that we create comes natural for us, so we have never intended to make music just to point out where our roots are. But I can to some extent agree that Helvetshymner has kind of a 'swedish' sound whilst the new album sound a bit more 'norwegian' if I may say so.. The new tracks we are working on for the next release is widely spread and will most likely be something in between of these two albums. At least that is what it looks like at writing moment. But until we enter the studio anything can happen, so expect the unexpected for now..

10. Can You, Naahz, please clarify what means Blodsrit and which philosophy links band? Are You musicians, who have similar musical feeling?

The name Blodsrit is taken from an old heathen ritual called 'blot' performed long time ago. In english it would be translated into 'bloodrite'. If anyone is interested in the historical meaning, http://www.ealdriht.org/blot.html might be a good start.... And yes, we all have the same ideological ideas and musical feelings. We are all fucked up in the head in one way or another..

11. Because at fabrication interview I listening „Helveteshymner“ :-), I must ask if on novelty is some light insertion in form of clean vocals...? I confess, that „Ildjarn“ with „Vanmankt“ belongs to best songs on album, in my opinion.

I agree that Illdjarn is a massive song. It was actually made by Kribbe who has taken part in the band as session-guitarist during liveshows. We have some co-operation between our bands for some time. I have taken some small parts on recordings with his band Portal and ha has joined Blodsrit on several occasions. So we asked him if he would be interested in participating on the recording of Helveteshymner and Illdjarn was the result of this. Also it is he who do the clean vocals on that particular song. If we will continue with something like this is nothing that is clear at this moment. We have a so far unnamed project together and some songs, and we have a label that stands ready to release whatever we create. So the future will most likely see a release with a complete album in the vein of Illdjarn.

12. It comes to me, that You drown in yourself when I plunged deep in to older, or straight to the oldest records Blodsrit... All effects on me in the sense that You experiment or lack experiences, which You sure had in that age... How You look into begins of Blodsrit?

I was in the time of the beginning of Blodsrit in a form of self chosen isolation. The idea of creating a blackmetal band was born earlier when I was in a deathmetal band called 'Primitive Symphony'. I felt that I wanted to creat something of my own, in a much simpler fashion than we were making with that band, so when I moved away I picked up the guitar, and hence Blodsrit. All I had was ideas and no knowledge about playing, and it is obviously heard in the early releases..

13. Question of image... is occular side important for band? Do You think, that what fan sights is important, with that what You serve up him by Your music?

We are of the opinion that black metal cannot be served correctly wearing nice haircuts and jogginsuites. Black metal stands for more than just music, and that is why we have chosen to continue the use of corpse-paint etc. The music in a live ceremony is to be a feast of blasphemy for the eyes as well as the ears. Nothing more, nothing less..

14. Are You assume in some record, which was released this year? Me personally assume for example „Death Triumphant“ from Setherial...:-).

At this moment I am stuck in Gorgoroths "Ad majorem Sathanas gloriam".. A complete masterpiece every second of the album.. Also Satyricons "Now, Diabolical" was a highlight of this year!

15. Which recently make me sad was fact, that for sole week were lost three swedish black metal personhoods... One of them was Otto Wiklund (Lord Moloch), second was Jon Nödtveidt and third is Kvarforth (which is since missing). Does say something to You music of In Battle (overall even Setherial), Dissection or Shining? Or whether even You know with some of them?

I have no opinion about these deaths. Maybe they had come to the point where it was time to end the mortal path on this earth. People live, and people die (obviously), no need to dig deeper into the issue. Some of them has had influence on what we do and for that they have our eternal respect for their work and their music will live on without them.. May them find what they were looking for.. We have raised a beer in their name..

16. I´d like don´t omit the question about knowledges of Czech musicians, nor yet. Do You know something about our history, memories (Now i don´t mean beer, hehe) or do You know some local bands?

bah.. You took away the only thing I really knew about the Czech area. Unfortunately we have never been there playing, but if we get the opportunity we will for sure show up and raise som hell in your region of the world, no doubt about it.

17. Do You like beauties, which were born in Sweden? For example sculptor Carl Milles, whose sculptures are on high clints in Millesgarden, or natural phenomena in a quise or beautiful grouping lakes, which you have in your country really much...?Though, where You will direct human, which is firstly in Sweden?

We all enjoy beauties born in Sweden for natural reasons.. Actually I had never heard about Carl Milles before I read this question. Maybe I am not as cultivated as people should be.. Hehe... But as you mention, we for sure have one of the worlds greatest natures here in the north.

18. This is all from my side. Much success with novelty, and I believe, that You sometimes come to us... To Czech Republic!

As mentioned earlier.. We will be there as soon as the opportunity is given, so see you there whilst all hell breaks lose and the czech beer is running in rivers.. Cheers and keep the eyes open for our next launch of anti-human propaganda..
