1. Greets in Hungarian lands! In the beginning I would like to gratulate you to release album „Forestheart“ on CD and I´ll give you basic question: What´s new in Marblebogs camp ?
Hail Hanskopf and Mortem ‘zine! Vorgrov here from Marblebog. Actually, „Forestheart“ CD is not a new one, since the recording of the album had been finished by Autumn 2004, and it was released as a CD in December 2005 (SDI & Tanhu). The tape version was released by the Hungarian label Kárpátia Productions – now sold out totally. Anyway, a Brasilian label called Hammer Of Damnation has just made a tape re-release in 1000 copies. The U.S. label Autopsy Kitchen will do an LP release of the album – even perhaps a CD re-release for North America-, so I can say that there is a huge interest in it.
Of course we go forth and are working on new material. 5 split releases are scheduled for this year. Unfortunately I have not enough time because of my studies/work, but the songs are ready to record.
2. So, „Forestheart“ is out and it´s by errant label Tanhu records. How did you communicated and how passed cooperation? Was there any complications? And as for: Are you satisfied with release?
I’m absolutely satisfied with it. We have been friends with the boss of Tanhu for years, nothing was difficult. I have to send my hails and thanks to G. from Tanhu and TRV from SDI, they are both correct persons. Complications? Just the usual delays because of this or that – this is the underground.
3. Cover of CD is really very nice, I thing, it catches body of creation. Did it last a long time than you though out that covers theme, or it was clear for you before? Weren´t you afraid, that theme of wood is in black metal far cliché?
When your songs are inspired by Nature and deep moods coming from forests, streams, stars, death, life pulsation, you will put something natural on the cover. Frankly, I think that an awesome nature photo can never be hackneyed. The front picture was the choice of G., the back cover with the stag was my idea. It is in connection with the intro of the album, in the first track you can hear troating of hart. The cover of the tape is a little bit different, there is the stag on the front image.
4. How would you describe „Forestheart“ from music view? I think, that we can listen to very good symbiosis between raw black metal „Csendhajnal“ and ambient „Wind of Moors“, though this progress very suits to Marblebog!
„Csendhajnal“ and „Forestheart“ were both written in Autumn 2003. The main difference between the two albums is that „Csendhajnal“ is a spontaneous recording while „Forestheart“ has real straight songs. About the metal/ambient balance, „Csendhajnal“ has more ambient parts (2 full tracks) than „Forestheart“ (just the intro and partly the outro). „Wind Of Moors“ is a later recording, but Marblebog won’t have such a pure ambient full-length in the future.
5. Surely you compose metal and also ambient compositions. I won´t ask, what is nicer for you, but: Which type of composition are you better in? What do you thing constists stronger side of your potential in and why?
I’m not a talent synth player, I can play the guitar much more better than the synth. But composing this type of ambient songs is very easy. A few sounds are enough to create a deep atmosphere. I just sit in front of the keyboard, and let my fingers find the proper harmony. In the future more synth will appear within the metal songs of Marblebog, separate ambient songs won’t be frequent, I guess. Don’t expect neoclassic passages, these parts are only to make the atmosphere more majestic, deeper. An important feature in this phenomenon is the use of reverb – I mean the whole sound.
6. If I compare „Csendhajnal“ and „Forestheart“, I find, that actual album is more optimistic, somethimes I feel from it onu natural spontaneity. „Csendhajnal“ is depresive, suffering, I could rank it in „suicide BM“ genre. Why it? Did you that time really pass by „sorrowfull“ composer period?
At the time when „Csendhajnal“ was born, I went through serious spiritual changes. I familiarized myself with previously unknown energies – not really unknown, rather suppressed – , and a big explosion of darkness and negativity happened in my mind. The result you can hear on „Csendhajnal“. Nothing was the same anymore, chaos and confusion started to settle. The title indicates this process – „Silencedawn“ means that silence was born in my being, a new era was beginning. „Forestheart“ was a more positive, more dynamic creation, energies of pain and negativity started to turn into a positive fighting spirit. Today I’m working to balance poles in my life and I try to look upon everything as a whole, everything in its context.
7. I find also lyric side of „Forestheart“ very interesting. I had the honour of read text to titul song of album „I am the Forestheart“ and I took not large composure and view, whereas that absention of negativism I find in black metal relatively original. Are you going to continue in that „neutral“ themes? How do you see on that obligate black metal hate and frustration?
Very good question. Before answering, let me tell you that those words are not the lyrics of the song „I Am The Forestheart“, they are just thoughts inspiring the whole album.
Well, I don’t know a single man who has only negative feelings, it is meaningless to suppress anything in ourselves. We have to learn to remain master of the situations, otherwise we become victims of our raving energies. The direction has to be in our hands, not in the hands of the phenomena in our inner and outer world. Black metal and other extreme and (mainly) negative styles can be a good device or method to express our feelings in a decent form. You can put everything into it from the most primitive instincts to the highest philosophical and spiritual ideas. It is great! Nowadays most people suppress their negative energies, I mean average people (90%). That’s why our society and world system is so perverse. But there are some people who suppress their positive energies. Everything is needed. I find it (at least) strange when I read interviews with black metal musicians who say that „I’m misanthropic, hate rules my life, etc.“, meanwhile they have a wife and children. People don’t look deeply enough into themselves, and very often they don’t use the proper expression when they speak about a certain phenomenon. What is death? What is joy? What is hate? What is to be in the moment? Also we can find several ideologies within black metal and, to tell you the truth, I almost never read an interview when personalities behind a band have a pure, serious attitude. Most often I can see disturbance and dilettante mix of philosophies and ideologies and very often I see that ones ideology comes into conflict with actions. People live in their narrow mind and they can’t see the wood for the trees. Naturally I don’t say that I’m perfect, no. But I’m trying to be precise and lead a life imbued with purity.
8. I´d like to stay by lyrics. Each musician has dilema „native language/English (eventualy other)“. By you leads English. Why? Do you plan to write lyrics also in Hungarian in the future?
Mostly foreigners listen to Marblebog. I don’t lay stress on promotion here in Hungary. The lyrics were sung in English since the first demo. You have to know that I didn’t use any lyrics on „Csendhajnal“ and „Forestheart“ (and naturally not a single human voice on „Wind Of Moors“). In the future I’m going to write lyrics, the language will be English, I guess, but there are a lot of powerful and beautiful expressions in Hungarian, so I keep this door open, too. In my other projects Dög and Teth there are some lyrics in Hungarian. In the past we used even German and Latin titles for our (now split-up) projects with my friends.
9. All music in Marblebog create you with drummer Khrul, whose you recently „advance“ on stable member of Marblebog? How does proceed your music cooperation? Does Khrul only put the finishing touches to with beats for your music or he brings also interesting drummers ideas?
It would be great if we lived closer to each other, but unfortunately we don’t. We can’t rehearse this way. I consider him a real member, but to tell you the truth, the situation is that I write the songs, I send them to him recorded with programmed drums, then he records the drumlines. Naturally I don’t plan every single hit and kick, but it would be better if we had a rehearsal room in which we could work on a more spontaneous way, letting him get more freedom. Jamming can be great.
10. Your „side“ black metal project „Dög“ is for major part of readers perhaps unknown. Could you introduce and specify it more closely to us? What did lead you to its create? What concept has it?
Beside the atmosphere and seriousness of Marblebog I felt the need for a bomb of wrath and bestial feeling with a sort of humour. Dög is rooted in the style of the ’80-s when thrash, black and death metal were not separate styles. Main topics are death, war, demons, and social critics. It is a primitive, fist-in-your-face styled project. A pro-CD-R containing all demos will be released by the Hungarian label Neverheard distro.
My third important project is Teth, which consists of Elerion Miroku and me. Closing the first era of Teth, a collectional album will be released on tape soon, including all recordings since 2001 to 2006. Kárpátia Prod. will do a fully professional MC release, while Hammer Of Damnation a South American tape version in 1000 copies. Expect intensive, gripping moods of majestic black metal and hypnotic ambience.
11. Once did you play as concert quitarist of the band Tuman (Tymah), how do you think back on that period? How did you play with Dim?
It was cool but I don’t care for them anymore. I’m disappointed with them.
12. About your current label Tanhu rec. is known, that it´s supporter of NSBM organization „The Pagan Front“. I know, that similar questions are boring, but what´s your opinion on that theme?
It is not a boring question. What I think about national socialism is closer to the point of view explained by the Spanish author Ernesto Milá in his book about nazism and esoterism, titled Ariosofia, teosofia, nazismo privado. It is a very complex topic and I don’t want to go deeper into it.
13. What about Marblebog and future? I see, that you plan many splits (f.e. with Bilskirnir), do you plan to give new material on it? Are you working now on new songs? What can we look forward on?
Yes, we are working on new songs but again: the lack of time – as I said in the beginning. The Marblebog/Vorkuta (Hun) split MC (later 12“LP) will be coming next. The drums and the guitars have already been recorded. Then a 4-way split CD will follow with Flammentod (Ger), Woodsmarch (Bra) and Inmitten Des Waldes (Bra). Then a split CD/MC with the Polish one-man project Evilfeast and a 7“EP with Bilskirnir (Ger) are planned, as well as a 3-way split with Lascowiec (Usa) and Vérzivatar (Hun). I’d like to see „Wind Of Moors“ on CD in 2007, too. Bands and labels are writing again and again with different ideas of split releases, but I don’t want to schedule anything. The aforementioned releases are more than enough. I’ll be very-very satisfied once they are out.
14. Thanks for interview and I wish you many music and also other successes in the future. Last words are yours…
Thanks for your interest. Greetings!
