1. Greetings OTARGOS and especially you, Dagoth ! For the beginning I’d like to ask you for introducing your band a little bit (it needn’t be long). Not all fans met your music already. I must confess that even for me the title OTARGOS was something new…

OTARGOS was founded during summer 2001 .We started out as a band totally devoted in making furious and raw black metal. In four years we released two aclaimed self-releases EP entitled “Conquerors, Conquerors,... Destroyers (2001, sold out)” and “ Codex-666, Infernal legions strike (2003,sold out)”. We performed also a lot of shows, OTARGOS is a “live” band!. We quickly won recognition in the French underground scene. In 2006, we recorded a full-length album “Ten-Eyed Nemesis” (Rupture Music), and suported DARK FUNERAL and NAGLFAR in their french tour . And, Answering the demand from numerous fans, we decided, with Ruptutre Music, to re-edit our two old sold-out releases, “Spawn from the abyss”(Rupture Music) contains thus all OTARGOS’ old stuff plus bonus multimedia and videos.

And now, early 2007 comes the NEW album “KINETIC ZERO”.

2. You belong to bands which are releasing a new album. So my question is what can we expect? Will there be any “new” characteristics on “Kinetic Zero” which the fans of OTARGOS haven’t met before?

This new album is more brutal,but also more heavy, pounding and freezing. we explored diferent musical ambiances . KINETIC ZERO is the most personal release I wrote. KINETIC ZERO is more OTARGOS!

3. The new album will be entitled “Kinetic Zero”. How long were you composing the new material? Are you working specific in some way?

We started to compose just after “Ten-eyed nemesis” album, in fact we never stoped composing. I used to composed all Otargos’ music and and all lyrics but this time I worked a lot with our new 2°nd guitarist Astaroth.. and XXX whrote some stuff. the result is very good!

4. From the title of the album and songs’ titles it’s already clear that it will be different lyrics here from all other music bands. Where does your ideology lie into? If we can talk about some ideology in case of OTARGOS…

I do not believe in any divinity , I’m interrested in humanity believes ... I just want to say that : “No god created Us... but we created gods” . we are just matter, energies, and quantum soup in a fractal cosmos, in a multiverse which we never absorb the concept. We are nothing, we know nothing. Lyrics talk also about total anihilation until the dimension Zero, when zero, alpha and omega are the same, flesh, time and space are the same.


5. You’re interested in cosmology, quantum physics, and multi-universe. This is not ordinary and common “hobby” to say the truth. A man who’s working with such things must be educated a lot in this branch. Who is responsible for it in your band? Who is interested in science disciplines here?

I do ! I am a scientist, I always be passionated in cosmology and quantum physiscs. I use all my knowledges to whrite my visions, and it’s somtimes difficult... just like explain the concept of a “new colour” or “crystallisation” of light!

6. Now I think…although the human’s brain is not possible to reach and understand the whole size of the universe so I’ve got another question which doesn’t let me sleep restfully…imagine that there will be NOTHING. What could you imagine under this word? When I’m thinking it over again and again I found out that this is the topic I could think hours about…

Yeah, I often spent nights thinking about this kind of questions!! I think all that we can’t percept doesn’t exist , is NOTHING. It materialise just when it is observed!

7. How does it look like with your concert activities? Do you prefer studio to live show? Aren’t you planning some tour to support your new album?

We prefer without any hesitation live shows. Otargos is a “live” band! We’re starting to plan a tour ... live performances are very important for us! We work a lot to give the best on stage! We work a lot on the sound quality of each intrument , the visual aspect ... and of course the precision of our music ! we are able to play any songs of OTARGOS live.

8. Contemporary it’s pretty up-to date to try various new structures and to involve various effects (I mean mostly electronic). Some of the bands start to use such things and even in your material we can meet them but in softer way. It’s not so expressive like for example ABORYM stuff. What’s your opinion about those modern effects and “insertions”?

I think the most important thing is not the “effect” or “insertion” used, but the work of composition, the ambiance and the feeling that transmit the result. black metal goes beyond the sound and music and intruments used.

9. When I look at your cover of “Ten Eyed Nemesis” it reminded me the connection with the movies which show the period which is long time ahead of us. Do you like surrealism and sci-fi genre?

Hmmm... I don’t like the cover of “Ten-eyed nemesis” a lot .. We just not wanted a common cover ... like B&W; , a forest , or a demonic face...I think you know the sort of stuff I mean!.
But yes, it’s a “thing” of an anihilation era, it’s the topic of Ten-eyed nemesis. But nobody cannot say it’s a long time ahead of us, cause a cosmic alteration and a trans-dimensional chaos can occur at any time!maybe the next century ... maybe tomorrow.


10. It’s strange that there are various lengths of the texts in reciprocal proportion. Sometimes there are tens of lines, sometimes there are only five. How does it look like on the new album?

Yes,and I think somtimes few words bring more .... All text are the result of a long work ... and generally more the text is short... more the time to ‘express” it was long.

11. Because you’re playing black metal which is always connected to the hate against God, it’s very hard to avoid this question. What is your opinion about religion?

All religion are useless . I don’t believe in any God and I don’t believe in any Satan (sorry!) religion is a creation of weak human mind... cause human is too weak to face all that is around it without. It’s pathetic.

12. Astaroth is the youngest member. Do you let him feel that he’s the youngest sometimes? I don’t believe that you’re not making fun of him…:-)

No, it never been a problem, Astaroth is a great guitar player but also a great friend, HE have fun cause he hasen’t got his car licence, so he never drives !

13. You’ve got presumptions for composing of hit songs. OTARGOS gives really fresh and authentic black metal to the listeners. Do you like some kind of “hit” songs? Does it happen to you sometimes that you listen to specific song for so long time till it comes sick off it (I don’t mean your own songs of OTARGOS)?

Sorry , I don’t really understand what you mean about “hit” songs and OTARGOS ..

but I unhallowed myself listening some masterpieces to not precisely come sick off it (as you said)! (for instance : “decade of aggression” Slayer live ) especialy to appreciate and to feel maximum things each time I put the CD on ... just to feel anytime like the first time...
I think you understand...

14. When I looked at your web pages I found one collective character which is familiar with all the members of your band. All of you listen to DARK FUNERAL. What does their material and production of this northern band mean for you? In my opinion this band is not appreciated as much as it should to be. What’s your opinion about it?

We all appreciate DARK FUNERAL it’s true ... but we are more fans of IRON MAIDEN or 80-90’s metal stuff...
D. FUNERAL is a great band, not the greatest but a really great band, they brought their own style of music and athmosphere .... respect ! but I don’t like the last material .... I hope the next will be better ...

15. You come from France where black metal music boom is now, I would say. How do you see it from your point of view?

I think France is a crappy place for all french metal bands!


16. You belong to the bands which are pretty young. Were you or are you still influenced by some person or a band? Various people have their “idols”… does anything like that exist for you?

It’s unavoidable to be ,directly or not, influenced or to have idols so of course we do! As guitar players me and Astaroth have the same “idol” : Dave Muray from IRON MAIDEN the greatest guitarist and the Greatest metal band!!! forever to be!

Despite some say we are a D.FUNERAL style band we never searched to play a precise kind of black metal .. we really play what we want, whithout any musical style bounds .

I’m more inspired by ambiances than songs or melodies. I listen 80’s ans 90’s stuff but not especialy black metal bands.

It’s more the grandeur and the mistery of cosmos that inspires me.

17. What’s your opinion on modern black metal production of the bands like EMPEROR, ENSLAVED, etc.?

It’s easier now to product stuff of good quality... some bands, through the years, changed also their style of black metal... (maybe cause of it), incorporating death or classic influences ... sometimes it’s good ... sometimes it’s not. It really depends of the band...

18. Do you believe in faith or do you think that everybody is responsible for his/her own life?

I don’t believe in faith at all!
Of course everybody is responsible of his (or her ) own life!
And it’s certainly not an inexistant God who has to tell us what to do or not!
We don’t need this kind of bullshit ! open your eyes !
