1. Greets to you. After three years we again hear about Nae´blis and my first question will be headed to actual album. We know, that it was released by Northern Silence prod. (what load in?) and all instruments you supply alone. Could you approach us, where did you record it, what conditions in and what time slot in? By recording concentrate you always on slow work or you strive to have all record by fastest way and don´t make changes?
Greetings. Yes, the new album “Sketches of Reality” was just released by Northern Silence in a normal jewel case version and a special metal box version limited to 100 hand numbered copies. The album was recorded in my own studio, which is currently located in my basement, during the spring of 2006. Most of the recording took place late at night and often somewhat under the influence of alcohol. I don’t record after any set time-plan. When it’s ready, it’s ready, and some recording sessions take longer than others.
2. From „Beyond the Light“ suffered your creation few expressive changes, for example almost doubling footage of each song. But in contrast to the last album now you present less songs. So at the close we could speak about similar effect, though I suspect, that more feelings hide out in the new album…
“Beyond the light” didn’t bring the catharsis I was hoping for, and I failed to place all I needed to get rid of into the music. On “Sketches of Reality” I succeeded where I failed on “Beyond the light”, and the catharsis was most welcome.
3. I purpose, that it won´t be bad, if you tell to your listeners all about „Sketches Of Reality“…
Well, it consists of 4 long tracks (about 50 min running-time in total) and is my way of handling some of the questions I was dealing with when I wrote it back in 2005. While “Beyond the light” was more of a contemplative nature, “Sketches of Reality” is more determined and filled with frustration and despair.
4. Where come cover to „Sketches Of Reality“from, photo is your work?
The photo was taken by Håkan from THR/Visions of Suburbia, and digitally manipulated by myself and Eyðimørk.
5. Could you remember, when you started with composition for new-released album? Is there any music idea on the album, which striked you in absolutely unexpected moment? I would say, that you aren´t man, who would create in spasm.
At the time “Beyond the light” was released in 2004 I left the country and returned in the beginning of 2005. I don’t remember exactly when the first notes were composed, but it was probably shortly after I returned. The inspiration comes when it comes, and usually during the nights or late evenings.
6. Such a subjective question – what have you at the years mostly improved in?
Since the guitar is my main instrument and I can handle it better than any other instrument I would say that that’s what I’ve improved most in during the six or seven years I’ve been playing.
7. How do you describe that kind of music, which you create? You should allow all instruments, feelings (you aren´t restricted by number of words, by not)…
Dark, mostly slow and somewhat depressed perhaps? I have a hard time describing the music with words. I advice you to simply listen to it and call it what you want.
8. What work plays in Nae´blis piano, eventually keyboards? If I somethimes look apart from quitars in backing, it would arise from Nae´blis in all nice „classic“, no offence, again!
I like the use of piano in music. It’s a very versatile instrument that’s great for expressing many different kinds of emotions. Unfortunately my skills when it comes to this instrument are rather limited, but the use of piano will most likely increase in my future works.
9. Many people are surely curious, what means „Nae´blis“?
I advice them to read “The Wheel of Time” by Robert Jordan. Not only will they learn what Nae’blis means, but it’s also a great book-series.
10. In the history of Nae´blis you showed, that you music is really excellent. Do you rather create alone (solos projects), when you alone decide, what will you make with it and how will you play it, or you prefer work in band with other musicians?
I think the two different ways of working complement each other nicely. I enjoy playing in bands, but it’s also nice to work completely alone, without having to compromise on anything. It becomes more personal that way.
11. You play in many bands, which are different but also similar in style. Which music style do you preferably play? How many music instrument do you play on? You must have great mature musical ear, do you sing also clear vocals?
What I prefer to play depends on a lot of things, like what’s currently going on with the different bands and how I’m feeling at that time. At the moment I would say that I enjoy my rock/metal band Sunless the most. We will shortly record a demo that will be great! Like I mentioned earlier, (electric-) guitar is my main instruments, but I’ve used a number of other instruments on my recordings as well – like acoustic guitar, bass, drums, clean- and growling vocals, keyboards, mouth-harp and various percussive instruments.
12. I also read, that you own recording studio. How did it strike you? Does it make you many worries, or on the contrary pleasure? Is it hard in Sweden anything like that create and conduct? Perhaps here in Czech Republic have people, who want something like that establish, somewhat complicated rest. How is it in your land?
My recording studio is rather basic, and I don’t run it as a business or anything like that. I record my own music, and sometimes other bands I know record their stuff here as well. I’ve worked as a producer/engineer in a few other recording studios in the area, and it seems to be rather difficult to make any profit from running a recording studio as a business. I think it’s great to have the possibility to record whatever I want whenever I want, and if I happened to come across a shitload of money, I would definitely invest a lot of it in the studio.
13. I want to ask you on your next solo project „Wohlfart“. What idea leaded you to create composition of 55 minutes? Does it have any hide idea or overtones?
Back in 2002 I had a school-project where I re-wrote the lyrics for an old song called “The Greenlandic Ballad of Atli”, composed music for the lyrics, and finally recorded it. This turned into an 18-min song called “Lömska Planer” (“Vicious Plans”). When I had finished my project I wanted to do something like that again, but on a larger scale and using a story I had written myself. So during 2003 and 2004 I wrote and recorded the 55-min song called “The Companion”. The story is about a man who was brutally murdered along with the rest of his family, but he can’t remember that he’s actually dead, so he walks around looking for something without really knowing what he’s looking for.
14. How did it succeed you to turn up to play in folk groupment „Folkearth“? How proceed cooperation with too much members? I was very suprised, that also pop star Ruslana sing there…
Hehe, I think you’re a bit confused here. “Ruslana”, is actually called “Ruslanas”, and he’s not a famous pop star. I’ve been in contact with Ruslanas for many years, and he asked me if I wanted to take part in this folk metal “super-group” he was creating. I’ve been involved in the first 2 albums and I’ve recorded one song for the third album, but now I’ve left the band.
15. I will put you obligate question, which we put perhaps to all abroad musicians. Do you know any Czech metal band?
Perhaps, but none that I can think of off-hand.
16. What role does „time“ play in your life? Do you „fight“ with it, is it your rival?
I have a healthy relationship with “time”.
17. Do you impose in life more on facts or on impressions? Don´t you afraid to stay for your own opinion, also though there were much more opponents?
I would say that I’m more interested in facts than in impressions, and I don’t care too much about the opinions of others.
18. Thanks for space, which you delimitate for us in your free time. Good luck in the future and of course many „raped“ souls through „Scetches Of Reality“…
Thanks for your interest.
