Interview with Eternity (Classic interviews)

1. Greets, greets and also thanks for amicable admittance. I’m glad, I could support Eternity.
Rise of Eternity dates to 1994 - if I don’t be mistaken - to the time, when black metal was nearly on it..s top. How do you personally remember this time - all events, which were connected with the scene, on records and mainly on origins of Eternity?

A.Krieg: I joined forces with ETERNITY in the year 2003, but I started with my first band in 1994 too.
For sure, it was a glorious time with great releases…a mysterious appearance of Black Metal and the persons in the background. Nowadays it has lost a lot of spirituality, there are thousands of “Black” Metal bands and most of them are more than useless!

Basilisk: In the early nineties (before the immense Black Metal boom) there have been less bands but with a higher quality standard. They had much more space for individuality…to create something of their own and that’s nearly impossible today.

2. You are relatively active band, but full-length albums are valued. You often cooperate with other bands in form of split records. Do this confrontations bring you anything special?

A.Krieg: Since I joined ETERNITY we have released 2 full-length albums, one split-single and the “Tormenting Legends” song (Blut & Eisen 2 Compilation) in 4 years, I think it’s enough for that period of time.

Basilisk: To answer the rest of your question….we do only split releases with bands or persons we are in good relation with, but it’s nothing special at all.

3. On debut assumed me text to my favourite song (which I..ve ever heard from you): „Kill your father, Kill your brother, Kill your neighbour, Kill each other, Kill the whole humanity, Kill yourself, but first kill me...“, which appeals maybe lightly controversial, psychedelic…cover appeals on me with similar impression (what symbolizes it exactly?). Is it your purpose to lightly astound? I would say, lyrics are very extensive and it have much to offer also through casual classic „BM cliché“…

Managarm: It is just an expression of the unavoidable death…nothing is really important, not you, not me…not anything and maybe not even the death itself…but it is the only thing that is eternal.

4. To the new album…I would stay by cover. I think, title speakes by itself, but I would say that lyrics are similar with previous album: full of murders and „cursing“ the world. Person on the cover may symbolizes some main person, which stands forward legions of death…

A.Krieg: You are absolutely right. Maybe the lyrics on “Funeral Mass” are a little bit more old school and satanic then on “...and the Gruesome returns with every Night”.

5. How do you personally describe „Funeral Mass“? Are Eternity 2007 and Eternity 2004 in any aspects different?

A.Krieg: “Funeral Mass” simply is a filthy and unsophisticated Black Metal bastard! I think there are not as much differences between 2004 and 2007 as between 1994 and 2004.

Basilisk: I also see no drastic differences between ETERNITY 2004 and ETERNITY 2007. The same line up, the same possession, the same sickness, the same hatred towards humanity and again and again the same trouble with the so called Antifa (our busiest promoters, hehe!).

6. How long did you compose material on the new album? Did you feel freed or didn..t things somethimes go how it should? I won..t ask you now, what do you change on a record, but on that, if you are satisfied and if you regard record as the best, what you..ve ever created?

Basilisk: Of course we are very satisfied with the new album (that includes composing and recording process) but we are still really pleased with “…and the Gruesome returns with every Night” and I would consider both albums as equally good.
Now we are looking forward to the next one…

7. From my view music haven’t changed, but I see fierce step in more aggressive sound, which is exactly destructive. Do you agree?

A.Krieg: You are an attentive listener...

8. I appreciate contrast between vocals and quitars, it..s fair covered, though plain. On the new album I find it much more LOUD, strong, as like as you strive to full-throated shout to all the world (or ON all the world?)…

A.Krieg: I think something is wrong with the listener (or our work) if someone can not feel or catch the emotions by listening to our music.

9. Now you don..t combinate English with German, what is the reason of break away from mother tongue? Does English give you better means to expression and self-fulfilment?

A.Krieg: There is no special reason. English is just the language most people are able to understand.

Basilisk: Maybe we will use some German lyrics in the future again, time will tell.

10. Destruction…word, which could exactly characterize Eternity. Many people put emotions away from themselves with many ways, you choose music, why? Is it way of your disengagement from reality, returning smash,…?

A.Krieg: Music is indeed a good way to settle down aggressions, but it depends on the personality if music is able to disengage from reality or not.

11. Are live performances anything special for Eternity, do you sometimes prepare any especial numbers? Velnias from Darkened Nokturn Slaughtercult told me in interview interesting thing: „Stage fright is reflex of that, what concerts mean for you.“ Do you feel stage fright by your performances?

A.Krieg: Yes, sometimes we prepare special things for our live performances but it changes from time to time.
Stage fright? Difficult to answer because it is the “Manimal” that is unleashed on stage.

12. You will also perform on fest in Brno with bands like Geist, Shining, Infernal War, and so on. Have you ever been in the Czech Republic? Do you know any of our bands? Are you looking forward? Hehe…

A.Krieg: I have been in the Czech Republic for several times and hey, MASTERS HAMMER and MANIAC BUTCHER are total cult bands!!!
Yes, we will come to Brno! We are looking forward to the best beer in the world and for sure the cheapest....

13. So, I just spent most of my themes, so I hope, that it is one of the most interesting interviews, which you’ve ever made, hehe! No, just serious: I wish to Eternity much success with new album and I hope, that I didn..t bore you. See you in Brno!

A.Krieg: Thanks for support and see you in Brno! By the black light of the inner divine flame....NON SERVIAM - HAIL KAOS !!!!
