1. Spetälsk is a band, that I keep in my subconsciousness, but I don´t know much about it. I don´t know why, but I think I´m not the only one. I hate questions about the history of band and its members etc., but now... I´d like to ask after this.
Spetälsk were born sometime in 2000. By me(Zetterberg), writing all music and handled the drums.
R. Karlsson played bass and sang.
Then I wanted to move the band in another direction, and started to learn playing the guitar. And got a new drummer, Endymion of Misericordia. So this is the lineup today including our new singer, Ola from Griftegård/ ex Doomsday Cult. On the new record Deobrigula of Misercordia played the session bass...
2. The sound of Spetälsk changed strongly from the time of „Perverted Commandment“, you´re a little bit different even as for technique issue, we could say, that you started a completely new era. Do you agree?
To a certain extent I agree. We have a better production now, and more wellwritten songs. And for the technique issue, is only natural beacuse we have developed as a band. A new era? maybe, you could be right...Time will tell.
3. What did lead you to this „drastic“, but very positive change? Did you want to differ from the typical underground bands, which usually are not so particular about the technique aspect of playing?
Same reasons like in the answer above, but yes of course we want to differ from other bands, not only the underground.
I still think we are a underground band, but a good one. Nowadays we have a lot of crap bands in the underground I think.
Every teen with a computer can put out a shitty demo...Unfortunately.
4. As for the sounding of your instruments, you pointed out the drumms a lot, they somethimes resemble me some death metal bands. At first I found them a little bit incompatible with the rest of the instruments, but now I think, that it was perhaps intentional. I have to say, that your debut is very interesting music.
Ok lets say it like this: its me and Endymion who puts the songs together, And I am also a drummer from the start... I think that is the reason.
Both of us wants much drums on the recordings. and that how its be.
5. …what do you personally think of your first regular album?
You can allways do some things better...But in general I am quite satisfied and proud of course.
6. Do you think, that you will finally interest people as you deserve? Do you, in fact, want to? Do you play your music for people or just for yourselves?
Hopefully this new recording of ours will make people raise their eyebrows.
The music is my vision and my feelings, but its interesting that other people also seems to appreciate it.
7. Have you already got some responses to your album? Both from your friends and unknown listenes and musicians, etc. …
It is quite new at the moment but, Yes, people in general seems to appreciate the album.
8. If we should search for some influences, I´d say, that we could speak about te bands from Dark Funeral, across Marduk to e.g. Immortal, as for the best known. You obviously focused on the „speedy“ music, though it´s meaninful, not destructive, not chaotic. I´m polemizing... so tell me...
Yes these bands you must mention talking fast black metal. But if I should give you some influences it would be: the early swedish and norweigan black metal scene also the eastern Europe metal scene...I can´t/want mention any specific band... I mostly listen to other kinds of music than black metal.
9. I wish to know more about your lyrics, could you please anyhow in detail describe feelings, you put into them, what do they talk about, how do you compose them, etc.?
The lyrics on this album is about death and the end of the world. Maybe not my inner thoughts in detail, But still something I have on my mind every day, but in different shapes. I elected to not print the lyrics on the record.
10. Have you ever had any live performance? If not so, do you plan to have it? I´d definitely find it benefivial for both you and your fans...
No. Its not a impossibility, it depends if I can find the "right" persons to help me through with a live line up.
11. What do you remember the year 2000, when the band was founded and was being shaped? When you compare your band now and your band at that time, do you smile, or do you feel rather nostalgia? What was better or worse at that time, what changed?
Nothing much to talk about, I´m still proud of the demo and the ep. I can only come up with on positive change: We are more mature now and then, and perhaps we have a quite good clue what this music is about.
12. I´m glad, your label contacted me and gave me a change to listen to your music, it´s definitely a brilliant album by the musicians with very clear vision. I wish you the best to the future.
Cheers for the interview!
