1. Cheers to tremendously chilly Norway...
Not a few fans were waiting for a day when your new album will be finally out. I know it´s not a long time from a releasing "Til minne..." but what are the reactions? Positive or negative?
Mainly positive, but alot of people excpected layers of synths and a more clean production. We went further back to our roots this time. "Til Et Annet..." was in many ways more pompous and we wanted this record to be more raw and primitive.
2. You were recording in Grieghallen studios, how was the work going out? During the recording session, were there any unusual conditions?
The recording took quite a while because of jailtime and other musical projects. Also, the Grieghall replaced their analog equipment with digital during the sessions, something that led to problems.
3. On your last albums you used norwegian language but on "Til minne..." you wrote few songs in english. What was the intention? You are quite unique nowadays, many bands are using english to express their lyrics. What´s the purpose behind norse lyrics?
The reason for this is that some of the lyrics was old texts Gaahl already had written and they fitted the concept of "Til Minnne..". We therefor felt that it was natural to include them. Trelldom is in many ways a norwegian band and most of the inspiration comes from norwegian culture and history and it is therfore very natural to do it in norwegian. This is 100% Gaahls domain.
4. Does "Til minne"... have any sketch or story?
"Til Minne.." continues where "Til Et Annet.." left off and this is the third album of a greater concept. The nature is an important metaphor in all albums.
5. For me is "Til minne..." epic black metal opus. Was that an intention or you were aiming for something different?
You can label it as you see fit. We feel that we achived what we wanted with the new record. We never had any intentions other that doing what we feel is right. A lot of Trelldom's expression is a result of us beeing isolated from the rest of the scene in the beginning.
6. What was the reason for the delay between last 2 albums?
As I have mentioned earlier several factors all caused the delay. We also dont like to stress things and I feel that the time of the release was ok. We never really put the project on ice.
7. Can you explain meaning of the last song on album? "Eg Reiste i Minnet" is a exceptional song. Is that some kind of norwegian musical folklore?
"Eg Reiste i Minnet" means "I travelled in memory". The music is written for the album, but there are clearly references to norwegian traditional music.
8. Important person in Trelldom is Gaahl for sure. What is the cooperation with so strong and mysterious personality? I personally felt his heavy aura. But I am not sure, if I want to feel his close presence again.
I have known Gaahl for a long time and the current crew (Gaahl, Valgard and myself) has existed for over ten years. I thing people who meet Gaahl for the first time will be suprised to learn about his personality. Trelldom consists of very strong individualists and it is very important that everyone’s unique qualities surface in both the music and the composition.
9. Gaahl is a great vocalist. How did Gaahl participate on the making of the album? Did he participate in some other way than singing and writing lyrics?
Ofcourse. Trelldom is not just a project. We work like a band and all aspects of it are discussed in plenary. Lots of people know about Gaahl but I and Valgard have chosen a low profile.
Inspite of that, we are all equal when we work together.
10. Human relations are the grateful subject. What are the relations inside the band? How are you making out with your time?
Again I would like to stress the fact that we don’t just work together to maintain the artistic aspects, but because we like what we do and have a common understanding of how things should work.
11. You spend your childhood in the beatiful unharmed nature for sure. Does that factor left some consequences on you? What is your affinity to nature?
Nature has always been very important to me, as for most other Norwegians. When you grow up between the fjords and the mountains its difficult not to become fascinated by it. Even in our biggest cities and towns it's always a short trip to untouched nature. The Norwegians appreciate the outdoors regardless of season and weather.
12. Do you still remember on church burnings? What were the reactions of you and of your neighborhood? Gaahl already spoke about this but what is the opinion of the rest of the band, and what is your opinion about christianity in general?
Without any doubt religion is one of the main sources of conflict nowadays, event though i'm personally not affected by it. Religion and faith is not for me. I am also not very passionate about politics. I see it as weakness and an obstacle for human development. There are so many abstract things in life and I don’t see the reason of creating more.
13. Trelldom never performed live, will that change?
Probably not. It's hard to transfer our expression from the studio to the stage and we are definitively not going to make another "rock concert". But we do play with the thought and.. Who knows?
14. Imagine that you shall have a concert.... How would your image and stage looked?
If we do any performances I think you should come and see for yourselves..
15. Norway is the cradle of Black metal music. Great records are still coming from your country but I think that the evolution of black metal in norway is stagnating and it is slowly moving to other countries. What is your opinion about this problem?
I don’t follow the progress of the genre at all, regardless of country. We always focused on our own expression more than the genre. It's mainly the wrapping and the sound that appealed to me in the beginning.
16. Do you have some distinct plans for the future?
We are working on merchandise and LP-design and we are soon starting to work on new material.
17. I hope that my questions have not took too much of your personal time. Thanks and let your life is as great as music that Trelldom is producing.
Last word are yours..
Thanks for your interest and sorry about the delay.
