1. Hello, Hellchrist! I am really delighted that I can do a interview with you! Funeral winds are slowly becoming a cult band. Well the band exists for almost 18 years, how old were you when you joined the band?

I'm one of the founding members of Funeral Winds (founded 1991). I was 16 years old at the time.

2. I am listening to your new album more and more. I can say that people in my vicinity are enjoying novelty too. Are you satisfied with the album? What influenced you to do so hellish album?

Nexion Xul is a concept album, in this way it differs from our previous albums. I think this is the strongest Funeral Winds album so far. Influences music wise think of old Mayhem, Possessed, Sodom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, old Slayer, etc... lyrical this album refers to the ancient Sumerian, Akkadian and Babylonian forces of evil, based on the oldest of written creation myths known to this world.

3. I am interested how much hatred are you putting into your´s lyrics. Who is their creator? I suppose that you are...

Yes, that's right I've written everything, and I can tell you it's not about writing any fairytales. I put my whole devotion into it, and that's very much fuelled by the hatred that burns inside my soul.

4. In your pseudonyms and lyrics we can notice quite frequent use of the name "Xul". What´s the meaning of this word in the Funeral Winds?

Xul is the sumerian word for evil. Xul is the path we walk towards enlightenment and our connection to this force. It has no use to explain any further because it can't be explained in a few words and the chance that you or the readers of your magazine would fully understand the true meaning of the words is nihil because you obviously didn't walk the same same path we did.

5. As I mentioned before, you are on the scene for a long time. You are of course noticing improvement. Are you putting high aims before you?

Our aim is the highest aim. We suffered from undedicated bandmembers and lost much time with it. With this album it was an improvement in all ways. I think every new album should be an improvement on the predecessor, otherwise it's better to quit.

6. You are guitarist but mainly a vocalist. Your vocals are giving me creeps which is interesting. Do you have some well-tried tricks to sound so demonic?

No trickery here, pure vocals with some compression and reverb over it.


7. Classic question. Satanism...What, how, why? Satanism become a cliché in black metal. Do you search for some deeper sense in satanism?

I don't agree on that. Black Metal should be Satanic otherwise it is NOT Black Metal. I am a Satanist but don't follow any other Satanic system than that of my own. It is a complete waste of time to search into other cults. I know I'm on the right track. I rarely come in contact with interesting persons. Most of the self proclaming Satanists are just trend followers, they will never find the way. Their lives are useless like that of 99% of mankind.

8. You are three members in the band and you are playing in many side-projects. How do you manage to joint your free time? How much do you rehearse?

Well I don't have any free time, my only free time is when I sleep. At the moment we don't rehearse, sometimes we don't rehearse for some months to half a year. It doesn't mean that we split up. But we all have our hands full with other projects that are also important. We start rehearsing again when the time is right for it.

9. When I was searching on internet I found except the not-extensive webpage, three photos where are you among others posing on the cemetary. Do you like places like this?

Yes cemeteries by night are great to start meditation, have sex or to desecrate some graves.
It is just in which mood I am.

10. Are you interested in ocultism? Many symbols,black masses and so on. Do you believe in existence of persons whose manage to do Black magick? Or do you think that it is only trick?

What do you think? What for the most people is considered as occult for me is set out clearly, it's not hidden matter anymore, yet there are are always more and other territories to explore, every day something new is discovered. Black Magic is real.

11. I always stick for a while on your cover, i don´t understand it too much, what is the meaning of the symbol on it?

The symbol acts like a key to open the gates by which the Ancient Ones will seek their vengeance upon the face of the earth!

12. How it´s the warpaint important to you? Many people says that when they have it that they feel like someone else. What do you think?

I call it corpsepaint and use it to strengthen the mood I am at that moment. It's still my very own person.


13. We are europians, you are watching the european scene for sure but what about the over-sea scene? Many people are avoiding it and many are doing otherwise. What do you think? Do you think that americans can play black metal?

Some of the very best Black Metal bands come from America.

14. You are from Holland, the country of endless scope. What do you think about your home?

The Netherlands suck. Too many people on a too small piece of earth.

15. Aren´t you preparing with Funeral Winds some tour which would hit Czech republic?

At the moment we don't rehearse at all. If we do a tour and get a good offer to play in Czech republic we will certainly play there.

16. Well it just crossed my mind, if you were starting Funeral Winds now would you name it same? Well Funeral Winds could be quite serene for someone. No offence.

I think the choice for Funeral Winds as bandname is perfect, at the time we formed the band as well as today the day.
