1. Hail to you Glorior Belli! You have just released the new album, are you satisfied with it´s propagation? This jewel deserves attention! You are preparing concerts for sure. So what is the situation after the release of the new album?
m:A FOG: Ave. We are planning concerts, of course, but we are also starting the songwriting for the next album. Infestvvs is really inspired and we surely want to catch the moment. Carpe Diem, as they said. About live performances, we are planning some gigs in Italy (where I live) at the end of this year & a tour in the States around early 2008.
I: We had a very good feeback from the audience already. Summer is a rough period for the distribution, but “Manifesting…” had a strong impact anyway.
2. Talking about propagation. You are signed to Southern lord records. They have released many great albums. Is it a honor for you that you are under such label? Have you sent a promo to them or have they noticed you after the debut?
m:A FOG: It is a real honour to work with respectable and professional people like Southern Lord guys. This is already enough for us.
I: Greg noticed Glorior Belli after our debut album. That’s how we got in touch together. It was a great opportunity & we’re proud to dwell there, alongside good bands such as Sunn0))), Boris, Pentagram, Weedeater, Khanate, Earth, Orcustus, Twilight, Urgehal...
3. Has the "Manifesting the raging beast" some message? Most of the people would guess from the album´s name that it is about SataN. So I will ask you..What is the novelty about?
I: Actually this is not about Satan but Lucifer. The concept behind “Manifesting The Raging Beast” is the Luciferian philosophy. I share my visions & experiences of this path. The whole idea can be explained by our cover… This is an altered vision of the Holy Trinity – Which means that God is one being who exists simultaneously as a mutual indwelling of three persons known as the Father, the Son & the Holy Spirit. And thus it is for Lucifer: He is the Bringer of Light, the Sparks of rebellion for his followers. But according to the conventional mindset he is all all that is forbidden – He is a Satan/Devil. The distinction between Lucifer & Satan is founded on the role he is playing. So, you can actually see three characters on the cover – Three pillars of the Luciferian philosophy. Three unifying columns but only one Entity. “Our path to enlightenment lies in Darkness & you will only be able to see your true nature & the true nature of things in Twilight”.
m:A FOG: I will quote one album’s sentence: “Through the taste of deadly sparks shall the beast of night be born!“.
4. M:A Fog from Italy recorded drums for the new album. He did his work truly great! He recorded his drum parts in Italy so I guess that he also lives there. How are going to do it with live gigs? It´s quite far from Italy to France. Will you hire session drummer?
m:A FOG: I am a permanent Glorior Belli member and I will take part in the upcoming tour and in the majority of live dates. I will not take in part in some live gigs since I will be busy with Black Flame for the album recordings, but mostly you will see me live with GB. Thanks for your words about my work, I like to follow true way of playing old school. A lot of new drummer claim to play “old style” and they use triggers, samples and all the modern ways of producing drum sounds. I like to balance this new technologies with the fact that drums are still a percussive instruments and the listener must hear that I am beating those skins to death.
5. One of the strongest moments on the new album is the guitar solo in the ending of Altered verses. Amduscias of Temple of Baal recorded it. Have you entrusted him to do so because you are friends or you don´t like guitar masturbations but you felt that the song demands it?
I: I do like guitar “masturbation” actually. Amduscias is a good fellow & an excellent musician. This solo was totally made for him - Pure “raging style”! It was a good collaboration & I hope we will work together again in the future.
6. Biggest plus of the novelty is the sound. I haven´t heard a so fitting sound for a long time! Every instrument has its place, almost every string vibration can be heard, and when it´s needed the music can hit really hard! I think that you are satisfied with it. How long did it take you to find a right sounding?
m:A FOG: There was no big “plan” behind the sound. We produced this album as we wanted it: Genuine, Obscure and Direct. And most of all, no one single instrument has been put more under the “spotlight”. Instruments are totally devoted to the final result, to the music. That’s why this album came out with a special and great sound. There is no individuality.
7. We have asked many French bands this question and mostly we hear the same answer. French underground is miserable and so called scene is dead. What do you think? Are there some bands in France from which can be the fans proud of?
I: There’s no connection between G.B. and the others. We don't belong to this hypocrite community. I'm not interested at all about the health of our national scene. We only got strenght from our beliefs & not because we hang around with some national freaks. I appreciate few French bands, but not because they are French. I only feel comfortable with few people around: Non-metal people.
8. In the old line-up you took a few promo-shots where each member had written instead of instrument he played, Eye, Hand and Throat. Quite interesting idea and it also fitted with your instruments. How this came into your minds?
I: Actually it didn’t really fit with our instruments since I was the “throat” but I did compose all guitars & bass too. It might have been a good idea at this time but nowadays I think it was stupid mostly for that single reason. There’s no big deal though & I learned from my mistakes. This was already the idea of different roles for one single entity.
9. What caused that you are now only original member of the band? Was your musical vision different from those of the former members? Or some rupture happened between you?
I: The reason why I’m the only remaining member from the original line up is because I was the only one who provided Fire for G.B. Though Antarès was (and is still) a very good fellow/musician but he unfortunately had to leave. I’m proud to share my path now with m:A Fog anyway. He did prove his value & great abilities on “Manifesting…”.
10. What do you prepare for the future? You have released a new albums with Glorior belli and Obscurus advocam this year, do you have some other projects? Or will you take a break from the creating new music?
m:A FOG: No breaks – direct to next opus !
11. Thanks for yours willingness and patience with this interview. Good luck to your projects and on the end a little unusual question. Which colour do you like more? Blue or green? Well if you want to dedicate a few words to czech and slovakian fans, go on.
I: I only like the grey – The true colour of Lucifer’s spirit.
Merely a key am I no path, to greater spheres.
