Interview with Limbonic Art (Classic interviews)

1. My the most respectful regards to Norway, to Sandefjord to be more exact. Tell me, in the beggining of the interview...How are you and Deamon doing two weeks before the oficial release of "Legacy of Evil"? Are you nervous? Well, after the five years long break, it must be tough to do not disparage so big name as the Limbonic art truly is.

Nervous? Haha... no, we are not nervous at all. We have been releasing a few albums now, and the thrill of the releasedate has somewhat been lost through the years. But we feel fine, everything is going smoothly, and both of us have quite a lot to do with promotions and interviews and stuff like that.

2. You´ve started with LA quite long ago, in 1993. Facts claims that Deamon with the 3 additional members started the Limbonic art. You came to band after them. Can you tell us who were those people? Had they succeeded in starting their own projects and creating similar well-known band?

Yes, that is correct, Daemon started the band as a four piece back in the day, but they quickly disbanded due to musical differences. Unfortunately two of the old members already died, and the last survivor has never really done much after that when it comes to musical projects, as far as I know at least. I don’t think I have spoken to him in 5-6 years now.

3. In consequent years Limbonic art have released a promo on which you participated too I suppose... Promo from 1995 was that classic "Label-searching" one, am I right? Second in that year the debut album came out. Those promos are including the tracks that lately appeared on debut "Moon in the Scorpio". What about the others? They role in LA history will come lately, but they hadn´t achived that quality you wanted to have on you debut?

I think we first did two promos relatively quickly and those were picked up by NAP. Shortly after that we made a minor compilation of those promos, I don’t remember if they included some new songs, and those were printed in 100 copies I think. After that we recorded Moon, and the ball was rolling after that. Some of the songs that we had already written were songs that we just selected out from the album, some had qualities that we were not too happy with, and others were simply chosen out. If we had included everything we had, Moon would have been a double cd and then some. We recorded Epitome of Illusions to stop the endless questions for the promos. We were totally sick of copying old tapes with low quality, and therefore we decided to re-record the songs in a studio to get them in a little better quality and easier access for the ones who wanted them.

4. It´s a year 1996, you´ve just released your first album and you are slowly becoming a regular group. What kind of feelings you had back then?

We were quite thrilled about the album and the fact that we were releasing a cd, to me, only big artists did such things you know. Actually back in the early days I didn’t even think about recording the material or anything like that at all, I was simply writing music and was perfectly happy that. Recording albums and so on was something the ’others‘ did. Daemon was a little more into the way of such things, and it was he who introduced me to recording and so on, and I guess that got me hooked. I think that our main focus was always on writing music and to create as good atmospheres as possible for the songs and albums, and when we finished our first album we were already well on our way working on the next, and that’s pretty much how it has been since then up until we split.

5. With "Moon in the Scorpio" also a label Nocturnal arts comes. Yours domestic company is a institution through which bands like Red Harvest, Aeternus or Emperor came. You both stayed in NAP until yours split-up. What do you credit that you stayed?

That is very very simple actually. NAP has always been working 100% for us, they have kept all their schedules and obligations towards us, they always did everything by the book, they have kept the albums available to the masses, and that is the most important thing for us. We have never seen any reason not to cooperate with them. They are not the biggest label in the business, but we have never sought to become a very big famous band either. We are happy with the situation that we are in, selling a few albums and being able to record and release a new one when we feel like it.

6. From the beggining to "Ad noctum" you were cooperating with certain Morgana. Can you describe this person and the cooperation with her?

She is my ex-girlfriend, and she was helping us out here and there with things that needed to be done. We had a nice cooperation with her until she decided it was time for her to do other things. Then eventually we stopped our relationship a few years after that.

7. Train is accelerating and in next year "In abhorrence dementia" cames out. Album is definataly more "insane". What are you and Deamon thinking about it? Do you think that it pushed Limbonic art onward?

I don’t think anyone has ever accused us of being sane. It was just a natural development for us I think, we were on the roll and there was nothing holding us back, inspiration to make music flowed freely and there was just one option, let everythig loose, cry havoc and sound the horns of war.

8. You recorded second album in a different studio than the first one. What did the new studio brought? And which "change" can be felt most?

An old friend of mine had put up a studio in our hometown and that was something that worked out really well for us. We would never go back to the studio we used the first time tho, the atmosphere of working there was quite terrible. We was now able to work in a relaxed atmosphere, go home and sleep in our own beds when we were finished for the day, and also to work with an engineer that knew what he was doing and who knew our thing.

9. Whatever, next year you have released the best of compilation "Epitome of Illusions". We can find there materials from the early Limbonic art era. What made you to do so? You decided not to include them on debut album, and then, after two years you decided to re-record them and release them.

Ah, I think I already answered this above here. Well, the main reason for doing so was that we actually were asked so unbelieveably many times to copy those first tapes, and we were really fed up with it, and we thought it would be a good idea to re-record them so that we could present the songs in a better quality as well as getting some time off from our tape recorders.

10. "Ad noctum - dynasty of Death". Milestone in your history for sure. Album which confidently put the guitars ahead of synths and aggresivnes ahead of melancholy. Well tell us...

We decided pretty early on to try to bring a certain aggression into this album and that was our primary intent with this album, to make something so intense and so violent that the world never heard anything equal to it. And so we did. We spent quite a lot of time developing the sound and the outcome of this one, and I think that we achieved what we wanted. I still think that this is our best produced date, Legacy of Evil may prove to change my opinion on that, but it is still too soon to compare Legacy of Evil up against the other albums for me, as I need to get some distance before I make up my mind about such a thing.

11. You have untied with lyrics too. From space melancholy and insanity to egyptic culture and cult of Death.

I think it is just a natural thing to change topics and interest when it comes to inspirations about what you write about . Things change in live, interests change, and come back again, it is probably some kind of cycle, history repeating.

12. "Ad noctum" is a prominent album in yours discography but on the otherside it made a thick line after the "infant" years and it is still influencing the sound of the band, Am I right?

I think you can say that yes, however we don’t really look back on our previous albums too much when it comes to the sound of our future albums.

13. Where did you recorded that album? Have you stayed in "Pete´s place recording"studio?

Ad Noctum was also recorded at Pete’s Place which was a natural studio for us to use. We are very satisfied with his work, and the logistics of everything was just right for us. Unfortunately short after Ad Noctum was completed he had to leave the studio behind to focus on other matters, and we were left without a „home“ for a while.

14. Three years of creative break was filled by two box-sets. Could you approximate its content to us please?

These box-sets were something that was proposed to us, if we would be interested in doing such a thing, and we agreed upon it, I think it was a cool thing to mark our career at the point we were.
These sets had nothing at all to do with the end of the band at all.
If I remember correctly the vinyl box included all our albums in picture discs, except Epitome.. as we don’t really regard that album a full release so to speak. The cd box includes all our albums up to Ad Noctum.

15. Eventually you have released another album "The ultimate death worship" where the great singer Attila Csihar participated. This vocalist is a well known guest singer on many albums. But why on yours?

That happened by coincidence mostly. Attila was visiting Daemon one time and he joined us for a rehearsal and a few beers, and during the course of that rehearsal we decided do a little bit of jamming for the hell of it, and then we decided to use some of the outcome of that jam in the song. them. I simply choose not to get involved with them.

16. "TUDW" is an album where you mix a thrash and death metal to a certain extent. For me personally it is yours least idiomatic album...which lacks many of classic Limbonic Art components.

I think that this album is the one I like the least of our albums. The songs are good I think, but I’m not happy with the production at all. Possibly it is a result of us already drawing more mentality to our other projects and so on.

17. In next year, the Limbonic Art are splitting up...I think it is a unimaginable cliché but can you describe what kind of relations happened between the members?

There were no particular differences in relations between us as members, but our mentalities were focused on other things than Limbonic Art, and this was the main reason for our descision to end our cooperation. We didn’t want to keep on releasing albums that we would not be happy about and therefore we decided to call it quits.

18. What really means the split-up of a band of such a name? Who in that moment loses money and position? What do you have to acomplish so no one has a liabilities to you?

It didn’t mean much to us personally, we were busy doing other projects and we were ‚free‘ to explore those elements to the fullest. All of the involved people would be losing money in such an event, but that is just natural when something like this happens. We had fulfilled all our contract obligations and we had no strings tying us to anyone at the time.

19. You and Deamon dedicated yourself to new projects. The more known is "Dimension F3H" where you gave more space to a samples, keyboards etc...
To what degree you have used your experiences from Limbonic art?

To a very big degree of course. Experience is not something that you leave behind as you do another project. To me that is just a natural thing to use what you know and have learned in the future. However, this doesn’t mean that Dimension F3H is a band that float’s on Limbonic Art in any way, but of course there are things that I brought with me from one to the other.

20. Deamon started different project called "Sarcoma inc.". He managed with Arghamon to compose and release two albums. How much they were acclaimed then?

I haven’t paid too much attention to their acheivments, so I can’t really tell too much about them, but I have both their albums, and I think they kick major ass. I guess they have suffered a bit from lack of promotion and distribution, but I know that they are in the finishing process of their third album at the moment.

21. Yours ,now side-projects, are still active. Logicaly you will have a less time on them to spare. How did you manage to serve out your time after the restoration of LA?

Dimension F3H is the band that I still hold very much alive, it is a totally different thing than what Limbonic Art is now, and we don’t have any problems combining them. We just prioritise the time a little differently, and we have less time for watching tv, it hasn’t really been any of the bands that have been suffering by starting Limbonic Art again, there’s just been less time for other things.

22. But back to a Limbonic art now. In a magical day of Sixth june of 2006 you announced reunion. Tell our reader the most important fact...What made you to resolve in such a way?

It was a slightly gliding process of course, it wasn’t like one of us just called each other and said, hey, let’s start up again. We got in touch more frequently in the late winter / spring of 2006, for different reasons, and also we gathered all the old studio material from the past, to have all that stuff gathered in our studio. While doing this we were naturally listening a bit to the old material and also picked up the guitars to see if we could remember some of the old songs and shit like that. After a while we decided to check if we were able to write some new material just for fun, and when we saw that the song we were creating actually had some quality to it we took it a step further and decided that we would be resurrecting the band with full force.

23. It took a year of work before the "Legacy of evil" was done...First album after reunion...it must be a quite responsibility eh?

We don’t feel any responsibility except to our selves really. If we wouldn’t be happy with the album it would never have been released at all, so we don’t really feel any pressure or anything like that. It is very nice to see that people like the album, and that we get good reviews and stuff in the media, but we don’t make music for our fans or for the media. We create music because we want to, and for no other reason, all other aspects are secondary. But it is of course a good feeling when people like the music we make.

24. As I am searching for reactions the album hasn´t gotten any negative response so far...that´s a nice achievement isn´t it?

We are of course very happy about that, it is an enjoyable feeling. I haven’t seen to many reviews yet, but what I have seen has been really good, so I guess we did something right with this one.

25. "Legacy of evil" is an album where you joint I dare to say all of yours existing perfections. I think that it´s the most "colourful" album. You decided to bet on confidence. Second possibility of showing some new face of LA did not happen. Have you thought about it?

We didn’t really intent to make anything groundbreaking with this album at all. The only thing that we wanted to do was make music in the Limbonic way so to speak, and that is also what we did. We wanted to see if we would still have the feel of the band and the inspiration feeling like the old days, and we just continued in that vein.

26. And are you thinking about it for the future? Or do you want stay in familiar tracks?

We haven’t really started thinking about the next album yet, it is way too soon. For now we will just finish the promowork and then have a little break, and see how things are going.

27. You´ve released your novelty again through the Nocturnal art prod. What made you to do so? Well almost every fundamental Norwegian black metal band assumed a Cult status and name during their inactive period and the name of Limbonic art could be "sold" better and more efficiently...

Nocturnal Art was a very natural choice for us, as they have always been sorting out our business perfectly. They have kept all their agreements and done their work as they should, so we didn’t see the need to fix on something that is not broken. Also, Nocturnal Art is now a sub-label to Candlelight Records who have a much wider impact than what Nocturnal Art has alone, so we are perfectly happy with the situation as it is.

28. We are near the end of the interview and I want to ask you about yours future live performing.

We will unfortunately not be performing live with Limbonic Art anymore.

29. What awaits both of you in this year? Perphaps tones of interview like this one, loads of promo stuff and maybe some concets to celebrate the "Legacy of evil" am I right?

Tons of interviews yes, lot’s of promotion work in general, and then hopefully in the end of the year we get some time off to recover from all of this. Then sometime next year it will be time to think about how we will proceed with this.

30. For the whole Czech republic I want to thank both of you for this interview. I am immensely happy that you accepted our offer and we can spread your words to the fans even in our small country in the heart of Europe. Last words unambiguously belongs to the Limbonic art, so?

Have a good time, play our music loud as hell, and stay sharp as hell, we expect nothing less!!!

Cheers!!!
