Interview with Red Harvest (Classic interviews)

1. Hails to Norway, Red Harvest! I´ll start quite formally with the question how are you doing and what is the band doing recently.

Hello. We are doing OK. We have started working on some new stuff. Actually we were supposed to prepare for a tour in January 2008, but the entire tour was called off, so at the moment the only thing we can do is working on new material.

2. At holidays we had opportunity to see Red harvest live on Brutal assault fest where you performed as the last band of the festival. Your performance was totally destructive!! Really fitting for the end of the festival. I personally expected some shredders lie "Anatomy of unknown" but you choosed the path of slower but more annihilating song. How you liked the festival? I´m talking about organisation, people and so on.

We liked Brutal Assault very much. Unfortunatley we got in kind of late and after we had played we had to leave almost at once, but in general it was very good indeed. Great audience too.

3. It wasn´t the first you played in czech republic. Before Brutal assault you performed together with Arcturus in Prague. Do you like the Czech republic and are you thinking about some headlining concert in here? For example some Industrial-like performance?

Yes, I like the Czech Republic very much. I have been there a few times on vacation too. Great beer. Like I wrote, we were supposed to do a tour in January and that tour included a date in Prague. But now that that tour was called off, we have to start from scratch and just see what happens.

4. Band exists for a quite long time and you stayed in almost same line-up. I think that you understand each other musicaly. Plus, your albums are better and better!

Thanx. Yup, we get along pretty well. Of course we have some arguments now and then, but in general things work fine between us.

5. You started as a little experimental Thrash metal band. But now, your music style is something totally different. What influenced such a change in the development of the band?

I guess it is the fact that we are five very different persons working together that makes some kind of strange combinations that ends up becoming Red Harvest music.

6. You already recorded 8 full-lenghts which are getting quite "popular" and better with each release. Breaks between them aren´t long so I suppose that you are creative and still full of ideas? Are you now working on something?

Yes, we are trying to make something new – or something new of some old stuff. We`ll see what happens, but I am pretty sure we will make another full lenght album again soon.

7. When I listen to your music I have a feeling that you try to destroy your listeners. You succeeded on Brutal assault for sure! You have a very heavy sound with aggresively sounding feeling. I never heard something like that. Do you intend to move your recent style of music somewhere else, or is yours actual music that what you aimed for?

We have allowed ourselves full artistic freedom. I have no clue what direction we ar taking the next time, but personally I am aiming towards a more aggressive approach again.

8. During the listening I feel like I´m on the Mars during his expansion. I move between massive machines and insane factories. This Industrial atmosphere breaths on me from every album. Was this your intention or do you think that listener should perceive your music differently?

We have always tried to make „visual“ music. So I am glad when people tell me things like that – you know it is almost like a soundtrack to a not yet released movie or something.

9. It´s getting quite normal to use electronics and sample in metal music. You use this on every album. Do you wanted to distinguish yourselves from others and find your own personal and remarkable style?

I think in many ways we have managed to distinguish ourselves from other bands, cause we have very few melodic synth lines and samples compared to ther metal bands using this kind of instruments.

10. Industrial and electronic music always had connections with drugs. No offense, but what about you and drugs? Do you use the potential of psychotropic drugs during making music?

Personally I am a bit on and off when it comes to dope, same goes for some of the other guys and some of the other guys again are what I guess you can call users on a regular basis. If this affects the music in a good or bad way, is impossible for me to say.

11. I read somewhere that Ofu Kahn was diagnosed with volatile paranoia. Isn´t that because of drug abuse? And what about cooperation with him? Aren´t there some problems with it?

We actually work really well together. Never been a problem at all. We usually write all the music together. Whatever pushed him over that time was probably a mix of many things, noy the drugs alone.

12. Back to music. Your last album met with quite incongruousness reactions. Well I like the album really much. What are the responses of your environment and what do you think about it?

The response have been all over good, And the album has actually sold well. It was important for us as a band to make a more organic album this time. So we rehearsed the songs live while writing them. Of course those more into the electronic side of the band maybe got a bit disappointed, but this is what it is like digging Red Harvest. You never know what is going to happen. And neither do we, he-he.

13. Well the novelty is quite different from the other albums. It´s more melodic and atmosphere is different now. Not only myself but more people around me thinks that the album is more influenced by Black metal. Was that intented or we simply wrongly understood it?

Maybe and maybe not. But it is indeed different than what we have been doing on the three previous albums, It is very dark and „sad“ in many ways. I am not sure if it is black metal or not. Maybe some parts. But there is also a lot of other influences in it too. From Slayer and Laibach to Neurosis and various soundtracks.

14. Of course the fans are interested what they can expect. Are you preparing some surprises?

If things turn out as planned at the moment we will put together a compilation of some of our electronic songs in a new wrapping. At the same time we have started writing new material too. It sounds very harsh and grim – a but more in the direction of Cold Dark Matter on speed, ha-ha.

15. I think that there is nothing more to ask, so I want you to say thanks for a nice interview, wish you a succes and the usual thing at end it the place for a band to say something to their fans.

Thanx for your support. Hopefully we will be able to return to the Czech Republic to play a gig or two again next year.
