Interview with Endstille

1. Hails Cruor! In the beginning tell us how is the band doing 2 months after the release of your novelty „Endstilles Reich“ and how are you satisfied with it?

Everything’s alright and we’re absolutly satisfied with “Endstilles Reich”.

2. But the new album wasn´t accepted very well by the public community. Some says that you already squeezed yourself with "Navigator" album. That the new album just uses the already used.

Did you know that the “Navigator” was just a accurate copie of “Dominanz”! “Dominanz” was actually a copie of “Frühlingserwachen” ………. Nonsense! When you release a new album people are always saying: “I think the last CD was better, bla bla bla.” I don’t care. I think “Endstilles Reich” is the best Album we ever did. By the way that isn’t just my opinion, I read such statements very often in reviews or heard it from friends and fans.

3. I too think that Endstilles Reich is weaker than the rest of your discography. You signed up to Regain records. It´s a big company.... Haven´t you felt more pressure this time?

No, we had all the time in the world. We had already finished the recordings when we signed to regain.

4. You also planned european tour which failed because of some personal problems. Can you put some light on it?

We still have to work. So we have to spent our holidays when we want to go on tour. When one of us doesn’t get any holidays we cannot go on tour. That’s the whole thing. And you know “Endstilles Reich” is such a weak album that it will remain unchanged. (Attention: Ironyalarm!)

5. How would you sum up the actions around the Endstille when you signed the Regain records? Do you find it ideal or not?

I think for a black metal band Regain Records is absolutly first choice. They know what matters in that genre. We’re totally satisfied with our new label.

6. Let´s now dedicate ourselves to Endstille. After the 8-year long existence you were releasing only full-lenght albums (except the first demo and split with Grapuel). Is it some kind of inner philosophy or policy to release just full-lenghts?

What else should we release?
When we finished the recordings of one album, we always start to work on the next one. Why should we make thousands of splits when we can make a whole album? We only made the split with Graupel because they’re friends of us.

7. The split with Graupel was the the exception that proves the rule. How you found yourself in doing it?

As I said, we’re good friends. So it was a lot fun to make that split. It’s a record for us, our friends and some hardcore-fans. That’s why it’s limited to 500 copies.

8. Graupel is the band which I once liked even that their recordings weren´t somehow outstanding for me. They also did the work quite differently than you. 2 splits, 1 demo and one full-lenght from 1998. How you like their music?

We thought that when we ever make a split we would choose a band, which music is really bad. We all hate Graupel’s music.
For everyone who doesn’t recognizes, this was irony. Of course we like their music.

9. Back to Endstille again. I found quite interesting that only two of you are using corpsepaint. Why this disunity? Is the rest of the band less radical in the term of black metal?

No, they’re not. At some concerts M.D. and Wachtfels are painting their faces, at others not. Every member of Endstille is allowed to do what he wants. Also without corpsepaint they’re more “black metal” than many other painted villains.

10. Nowadays there are a lot of bands that are playing Black metal with only technical efforts, pushing aside atmosphere and image. Are you able to appreciate such bands or do you strongly dislike them?

I think that the atmosphere is one of most important elements in black metal. How good someone can play his guitar is absolutely not necessary. It’s all about the mood your mediating. So I’m not really interested in such bands. But they can do what ever they want. I don’t care.

11. Endstilles´s lyrical themes are about war and antichristianity for sure. Everybody has it´s own meaning for these terms, what is yours? What do you find similar between Antichristianity and war? And how you manage to joint those two themes?

Our lyrics aren’t really antichristian. I think they’re more antireligious and misanthropic. Iblis is singing about such terms because many people are sickening him. So it’s something personal.
We’re making songs about german-wars, because we’re interested in that topic. Also we get in touch with the subject everywhere. On german television is always a report about first or second world war, when you are growing up you learn something about that part of german history everywhere, germans still have this war-image in most countries… and so on, and so on. So it’s no wonder that we’re dealing with such terms.

12. Like the others bands headed by Marduk you deal mostly with 2nd world war...visually, musically and lyrically. How big was the impact of Panzer division Marduk on you? It came year before Endstille were born.

Headed by Marduk? Who is Marduk?! Visually? We never had an english tank on our albumcover! Or deamons or skeletons. Musically? We’ve got musically not much in common. Sometimes the speed, but that’s all I think.
If Marduk beared a meaning to us, than they showed us how to do it wrong. We’re absolutly not influenced by their music. Listen to our albums and than to Marduk’s, you’ll hear the differences. Your comparing a german “Königstiger” with a swedish “dog sled”.

13. Tell the unitiated what do you intend to show or accentuate in the war. Is it it´s suffocating atmosphere, suffering of participating, your fascination with war machinery, war politics or it is something different?

We’re fascinated by the machinery, the suffering, the chaos, the meaninglessness, the tactics. That all fits to Endstilles music.

14. Please answer me on these following questions:

- Imagine yourself living in that age... Do you think that Führer´s speech would influenced you?

I don’t know. It’s like you would ask me if I was green or red when I would live on mars. It’s an absolute different era/ world. I also could have been influenced by Stalin, Mussolini, Marx, Darwin, Franco or Micky Mouse when I lived during that age. Hard to imagine.

- Honestly... would you volunteered to fight with a weapon?

It depends on what happened. If I imagine that the Danish would try to conquer the north of Germany again, I would volunteer and fight them back. When the cause is necessary for my personal live, of course I would.

- How would you face the "work" of SS soldier in concentration camp?

It’s the darkest chapter in German history. But it’s not my fault. So don’t expect any statement about the SS from me. But you can imagine that everyone of us dislikes the SS and all other “instruments” of this fascist era.

-Do you think that the hell called "War" is in fact the purgatory of mankind?

That definition is a bit too spiritual for me. War is just about people killing each other in very perverted ways. Of course war has something to do with mankind, it’s manlike.

15. Let´s return to reality now... Introduce your plans for the year 2008 to Mortem zine readers. Summer breeze, Party san, Spring metal fest, and of course many of another gigs. I would like to hear something really appealing. ;-)

We’ll make new songs. Maybe we’ll start the recordings for the next album. We’ll see…

16. Thank for your time you spent with the questions of rascal redactor. I wish Endstille many musical achievements and I hope that you someday come to our Czech country. Last words are yours.

Gute Nacht und Fuck Hell!!!
