Musical violence can be achieved through contrasts (frequential, loudness and spatial) in the temporal structure of the music. Thus, violent music should be so varied that it is able to range from whisper to thunder. To that end, WAY TO END's music explores interactions between instrumental parts in order to build complex and surprising structures where every participating instrument (including the voice) is an original and a non-negligible part of the whole harmony. Every single instrument is an entity and the different melodies can be listened to individually, but the piece of music/composition is more than a sum of melodies. This allows for an unconscious audition, as a lot of elements participate in the overall impression produced by the music without being perceived consciously. Another key to the music is the will to escape the common Rock structure from which Metal derives by breaking the notion of "riff". A riff is the basic expression of an idea. Using riffs is like trying to formulate an idea by repeating the same sentence. Instead of building songs as a succession of riffs, the notion of evolution is sought, which allows the listener to find milestones ("music is the art of repetition"), but permits the music to move from one state to another and thus to stress its contrasts.
