1. Greetings to the FARSOT’s camp. I clearly remember when we made an interview with you 4 years ago so I’m pleased there’s time to make another one. “Insects” is released so how do you feel? Excited?
Satisfied and prosperous! It wasn’t easy all the time, working for and with this release. But all in all most things went really well. Now it’s time to enjoy the cigars and whiskeys… but hmm, let me think… No!... it’s time to present the hard work of months to the intent audience out there.
2. 4 years passed really quickly and “Insects” shows you made a big progression in your music. The album is darker, deeper and more mature. Do you agree with me or not?
Nice description. We absolutely agree with you. The material of “IIII” was written in its earliest moments somewhere in 2003/2004. So there are up to 6 or 7 years difference referred to the last “Insects” tunes written. A really long time to evolute personally and as a musical collective. The stable line-up and the healthy amount of live gigs were the most conductive circumstances concerning our development. On the other side you shouldn’t underrate the growing of our personal characters, manifesting their musical and ideological visions to a defined goal. The clear and rational view of a thirty years life seems to be more sober, ingenuous and reality based…
3. Does “Insects” shows how you developed as human beings or you simply tried to do something which will not be only a follower of “IIII”?
It’s a combination of both points. As I’ve mentioned in the last questions, the most important fact was our native alteration. On the other hand we are simply interested in discovering new territories, constantly. So nobody needs to expect a continuation of the “Insects” sound. This is simply the thrilling impulsion for FARSOT.
4. When you started with composing of “Insects”, did you have clear idea about the final product? Exact imagination how the album should sound like? Or everything progressed during the weeks, months and years?
There was some kind of vision. Not that precise at all, but a fine structured master plan. The question or the challenge for us was the ability to realize our purposes in a satisfying way. “Insects” is the conscious turning away from the melodic and solemn, partly mawkish playful aura of “IIII”. We wanted to explore depths and latitudes, more inaccessible than ever before. The ideal matrix for insects, arduous and unfamiliar for humans on the contrary.

5. Apropos, how long does the composing took? Whole 4 years or did you take a break after “IIII”?
As we usually try to compose the classic way by partly writing and fully arranging the material in our rehearsal room, it takes a longer period until songs are finished and matured in itself. The process of an arising album happens song by song, which means that everybody has to be satisfied with the result until we can speak of being down. Junk material didn’t accrue during this procedure. In this connection we needed at last about 3 years of time. There wasn’t really a brake after releasing “IIII” but we handled a lot of live stuff and some works for extraordinary releases.
6. If I’m right, you still have the same line-up, right? How big participation does this bears on the final product? The fact that you know each other really good, share the same ideas for many years, decided for this way of music together…
The band FARSOT., as you may know since the release of our debut “042103freitod”, is a concatenated affiliation. The loss of one organic piece would have explicit consequences. I think we aren’t really able to esteem the advantages of knowing each other so well over the years. Everybody knows what to expect from every single unit of the group. But the fact that we started FARSOT. as a couple of friends isn’t always an easy basis. Well, try to compare it to an old matrimony, hehe.
7. Well, just thinking… who was the one that came with the first ideas about “Insects” and with first riffs? And generally, how the composing process in FARSOT works?
The lyrical concept is based on our vocalist’s thoughts. He came up with the ideas around the beginning of the song writing process. In discussions with the rest of the band, the visions later were specified. It’s me who usually comes up with the first riffs of a song. Together with our drummer, I try to create the fundamental song structures. When the arrangement process is over, the rest of the band gives its input to the tracks. This also can have dynamic results, while rearranging parts, or deleting/adding riffs or melodies. Everyone relishes an almost liberal margin concerning his own instrumental ideas.
8. There’s a change that kicked my ears in very first minutes of the listening – language change. Strong German was exchanged by more frequent English. What’s the reason? Why you decided to do this?
The rough and direct timbre of the English voice simply fits much better to the earthy and gruff metallic ambiance of “Insects”. It was a decision in the very early days of the songwriting. Furthermore, the vocabulary surrounding the album’s concept has really uncommon German vices. It would be almost impossible to avoid the borders of a slight ludicrousness (especially for German listeners).
9. Promo pictures, album cover, album atmosphere… All these stuffs hide something that I can’t describe without your help. I still feel little bit lost in the message of the album. I still don’t clearly understand what’s the pivotal idea of “Insects”… Please tell me about the concept (if there’s any) and the meaning of the album. What “Insects” bears inside?
Our intentions referred to the potency and manifoldness of that specific species. Insects themselves are outnumbering humanity in inconceivable dimensions. They lived long before and will remain much longer than mankind will ever be able to survive. The fascination about these thoughts intended us to dive deeper into the matter of those crawling creatures. From biological, evolutional as well as from the literarily and artistic aspect. On the same subject we tried to build an analogue and metaphoric bridge to mankind with its most different profound relations.

10. Musically… the album is awesome. All the vibrations, faster and slower tirades, everything is so compact and together create unique atmosphere. We can’t call your music black metal anymore, I think. Yes, it’s dark, strong, maybe evil inside, but really varied. How will you describe FARSOT’s music by yourself, as creators?
FARSOT. plays a kind of rock music. Profound, sustainable, ingenuous, autonomous and unexpected… Nothing more to say!
11. Important question at the end of an interview – do you have any idea or plans how your music will sound like in the future? Did you already compose some riffs or shared some ideas about the future together?
We currently started the songwriting on new material, which follows (surprise!) slightly another direction. But it’s definitely too soon to give you nearer and more allying information. But we also don’t have really binding visions for our upcoming tunes. An healthy mixture of spontaneous development and intended deliberations.
12. That’s pretty all from me. Thanks for taking the time, guys. It’s been a pleasure. Thanks for the album and bring is unexpected in the future…
Cheers and thank you for the interview. Maybe we’ll meet on tour!
