1. Greetings! You formed your band not too long away in 2004. What was the main reason for forming this band? Some bands do their music just for fun, or to please yourselves and fans. I think that NOCTURNAL DEPRESSION has got deeper meaning for society than only from the musical point of view, am I right?
2004, Nocturnal Depression appear to the face of mankind, it is the year of the release of the first full-length. In fact Nocturnal Depression get a place more before (something in the middle of 90’s) but if you know it today it is due to Lord Lokhraed who decide me and help me to reach the complete atmosphere. We didn’t need a reason to form Nocturnal Depression, just writing a kind of stuff getting out ours feelings hidden deep inside and when you let them coming out the worst can arrived… This is just a real music : making sounds which make your own feelings alive.
2. New album is logical following of your previous album from 2005. It’s always the same that band record next part as another album. It seems to me that you didn’t mean to create such continuation… if yes, why did it take so long time to do it?
To be honest as we had always been, I decided to name it opus II because for me it is the following of the track “voices from inside” style: clean guitars with a distortion one and black metal howls. As you said it, we didn’t compose and record it by this idea of create a son of the first opus. It take the time so long because to write stuff like we wanted we had to be on a kind of spirit… we will never compose sad music if we are happy.
3. It seems to me that the new album is best balanced and also the production is much more mature. Do you record your albums at home or in a studio?
Great remark. You’re right the new full-length is better than the old stuff. It formed in part the evolution of Nocturnal Depression. Concerning recording well it is formed with the composition process: we isolate ourselves in a house far away from cities and here we lived Lord Lokhraed and I for a week. This time is music all the time, when we have finished the writing then we record it in the week. But for the next album we will go in a pro studio and this will be the session members who will play the stuff we wrote…
4. Has anything changed according to your writing process or recording from the beginning of NOCTURNAL DEPRESSION? Your attitude…
The more important changing is I think we have liberate ourselves from a common black metal. When you listen to the first 2 cd you feel the influence of true black metal. Since Soundtrack opus I, we had realized my original vision: a major Black Metal influence with some heavy touch in melodies and arpeggios. Concerning ourselves we are always the same, a little bit more stupid for some people or shitty musicians… you know we don’t care of advices.
5. If we put away the vocals from your music there would be only very pleasant melodies, slow guitar riffs and some kind of relaxing drumming parts. When we put vocals into it gets different face. The connection of these melodies with such tortured vocal really set fans’ teeth on edge. When I listen to your material very carefully I perceive all tones and voice trembling. I’ve got the feeling that an avalanche of depression will take me down. Are you trying to put attention to destroying effect or do you use heart-feeling here?
This is a great and interesting question, I enjoy your interview… As I said we prefer the way of the feelings but the explanation is more difficult and we will divide the answer in 2 parts music and vocals:
Musically, Black Metal is the best music that can play with your feelings. It is more aimed at the Negative feelings. Most of time hatred, war, anger… but there is even the feelings of sadness, sorrow and depression never used because not violent. So imagine getting the darkest kind of music with sad words by slow tempo. Vocals are the most important instrument, if Lord Lokhraed may sing with a clear voice it will be a beautiful sweet music even if it is black metal. I wanted typic Black Metal Howls because it’s the bridge between the human and his suffering feelings. Damn just listen to the cry mix to the clean guitar… each time I enjoy them. So all is an actor to play with your feeling, we know a lot of people affected by our music…
6. Is the main goal of your albums to create such atmosphere?
Each album illustrates a different atmosphere.
7. Black metal is one of the “specific box of genre”. Your own style is described like “suicide black metal”. The bases for this “title” are your texts for sure. Does Lord Lokhraed write them only or do also other members take part in writing?
We are only 2 in Nocturnal Depression ‘s writing process and it will always be. We write lyrics in subliminal ways but without complicated words, I hate this. We said first on the cd that we were playing True Suicidal Black Metal but in the next we don’t stand on searching a label type of our music. It can be called Suicidal or Melancholic Black Metal, Black/Doom or even Shit we don’t care of this…
8. You’ve also got very specific video clip “Nostalgia”. We can see here that you’re interested in Satanism, am I right? Are there some connections between NOCTURNAL DEPRESSION and Satanism?
We are Satanists and we don’t want to hide ourselves from this. The only connection is made by us and we don’t want to express it via Nocturnal Depression. Lord Lokhraed had Grim Landscape for this kind of ideas on music.
9. “Four Seasons to a Depression” showed four seasons of the year which is the most used topic nowadays. But it’s still very impressive. What do these seasons mean to you? What do you like most – melancholy autumn, cruel winter, blooming spring or hot summer?
We take a base (very very far) from Vivaldi. These seasons we made are the best representation of a decadent life. Spring, the beginning of a melancholy arising. Summer, the suffering from which born sadness. Autumn is lead by the nostalgia and Winter is the union between the ultimate rage leading to suicide and a trip on the astral. In my opinion I enjoy the Autumn’s Nostalgia.

10. If I’m not wrong (which is not sure) your name isn’t present on the line-up list for concerts…what is the reason of it?
I don’t play live as I don’t go to see any concert. I live away from the scene for health reason.
11. What didn’t you like about Parisian black metal scene that you released a demo based on this in 2005? Could you please make it clear to Czech listeners who don’t exactly know what’s going on in Paris?
At this time you were only a Black Metal band if you were coming from Paris. Nowadays it has fade. I know this song has made a lot of writings on us but we don’t care. Here in the region we survive, we don’t appreciate any of them.
12. Do you take various interviews for magazines as a good promotion activity or do you think it’s necessary evil for propaganda of the band?
Making interview is great to explain more deeper your music. Well it is often consider like a propaganda, not for me. Music is the best way to know an artist than words.
13. Are you interested in psychical side of human being and the darker side? What brought you to composing music of such things? Your own state of mind?
The only thing who inspired us is the negative feeling produced by our past, present and future. We are always as our music illustrate it.

14. The best solution for all problems is to commit suicide in your case. Do you think this is the only way to solve the problems?
Every time you can only hear people plainting theirselves of their shitty lives. So to flee these problems they think about suicidal ways. In my opinion I won’t kill myself because I’m a guy who face the problems and eradicate them. It would be too appreciated if I kill myself… I prefer to stay and to fuck everyone who hate me.
15. In my opinion video clip “Nostalgia” deals with suicidal ritual. Does it make you feel better when you’re torturing your own body?
I don’t use self-mutilation anymore. I speak of it because I met teenagers several years ago that mutilated them. Then you understand what they need of doing this. You don’t have to do it for explain it. My body is a map of the suffering…
16. Is there any ideology, sect, idea or opinion which you’re standing for? If yes, could you tell me what it is?
Our ideologies don’t enter with our music.
17. Have you ever been in a situation in your life which you won’t forget till your death? I mean from the positive or negative point of view. What does the word “family” mean for you?
I don’t live in the past; I’m going on to face anything people can throw me to the head. I live far from family but I think it may be a reason for a lot of people to no kill themselves. I heard this shitty excuse a lot of time…
18. Was this interview pleasant for you in some way? If yes, thanks a lot for it!
Yeah you made a great interview. I enjoy questions concerning musical explanation than political ones you can see most of time now. Keep on…
