1. Hello Raivo! How are you just now? How are you doing these days?
What´s news in Estonia?

2. Would you please like to tell us a bit about the band? Many of czech´s readers might not know much about THIRD DESCENT…

We started playing influenced by melodic black/pagan metal. After some time music developed more technical and agressive, lyrics turned more and more military. nových věcí.

3. Can you tell about your last record „Provoke New War?“ How are the reactions so far?

The feedback is till now allmost positive and we found a lot of support and fans.

4. And what can you tell us about the lyrics? What does the title of the album mean, and where do you dig up your other inspirations for your topics in the songs? „Provoke New War“= very strong words….

Dark landscapes, burning ruins, blitzkrieg, tactics of the burned land, total madness and usement of massdestructive warfare, morbid visions from near future and especially soldier himshelf in whirlwinds of war are some words to describe our lyrics. What bring´s parties to on a large scale armed conflict? Reasons, justification and the real backgrounds of beginning a war may be the definition of the album´s title "Provoke New War". Lot of our inspiration is taken from Second World War and most important is that nobody will be forgotten.

5. THIRD DESCENT (or MOONLIGHT DESCENDS) has been a pioneering force in the field of the so-called death/black with keyboards metal genre. How do you think the genre will develop in the near future?

Personally I think that the genre will mingle with many other styles and the old good primitive and strong style will be mixed with technical, electronical and industrial components.


6. Can you telll something about greats war promo fotos? Really master´s work!

Exactly I dont understand what kind of photos do you think. There were one "picture" at Estonian Metal page but this was a real piece of shit and we replaced it. Some of our band´s promo photos were tooken by our vocalist´s girlfriend who is learning photography and the album´s "Provoke New War" cover was designed by an artist who is a great fan of science fiction and some artworks were made by myself.

7. What´s mean symbol of war for you? Have ever been in army?

War is a part of human nature, even when arms are not riseing there will always be a social, economical, political relicious etc. oppositsion what´s proportions are so big that it can easily name as war. All Third Descent´s kamrades served in the Estonian Defence Forces and some of us are members of the Estonian Defence League which is a voluntary military national defence organisation, a part of the Defence Forces. The Defence League possesses arms and engages in military exercises, fulfilling the tasks given to it by the law. Our synthplayer is a proffesional militarist - noncommissioned officer of the Defence League.

8. The Estonian metal scene is full of a lot of excellent bands…LOITS, METSATOLL, MANATARK…What's your view on this?

About ten years ago were in Estonia wery cold times in metal and bands were young and green, but bands like them were originators of potential estonian metal scene. Loits and Metsatöll are my personal favorites.

9. Do you know about Czech republic? Have you ever been in Czech republic? Do you know czech´s metal scene a little?

What can I say, maybe some geographical and historical facts, joined with NATO and European Union... but the first thing that remembers me first, is that 1945 in Czech were captured many retreating estonian soldiers who tried reach to west, some of them were executed without a good rason and others were given ower to Soviet Union. ... and my knowledge about czech´s metal- grand zero, but this interwiew give some intrest to look what you got there.

10. Are you satisfied with life in Estonia? Can you tell somethining about old time in Soviet Union? It was really cruel times for your land…

Allmost I´m satisfied, our economy is expanding and joining whid European Union gawe a good push in all. But in Soviet times.... Many of the country's political and intellectual leaders were killed or deported to remote areas of the USSR by the Soviet authorities during 1940 to 1941. The repressions also included actions taken against thousands of ordinary people. 1944 after germans retreated and Soviets "liberated" our land, began repressions ower again, till death of Stalin in 1953. Soviet rule significantly slowed Estonia's economic growth, resulting in a wide "wealth gap" in comparison with neighboring democratic countries (e.g., Finland and Sweden). Personally my grandfather was executed in 1945 by NKVD and all his family deported to Siberia, included my father, who was in this time only two years old. There is wery few estonians who´s ancestors were not victims of the"red terror" and its really pisses me off when some kind of human group comes to the streets under the red flag and calls Red Army, Soviet Union, Russia etc. as the great liberator of our land.


11. OK, next question. What is THIRD DESCENT for you? Just a band to play music or is it more? Have you any other hobies?

THIRD DESCENT is our mode of musical expression. I find a lot of energy through playing our music with full power. Personaly I am interested of history and I am a collector of WW2 military equipment.

12. Your favorite records just now…?

May be some albums from Emperor, Behemoth, Zyklon, but I dont have real favorite just now.

13. Plans for future and wishes?

I hope that our musical unit keep´s writtening new material and continiously shakes the ground with our instrumental mortars. Best wishes and hope that readers are not too poored.
