2. Why did you called band DRAGOBRATH? What is this mean? When did you have founded THE BAND? Who are DRAGOBRATH band members?
DRAGOBRATH is the name of ancient and famous Carpathian mountain in Ukraine. Our ideology and conception is closely connected with dark Carpathian atmosphere and ethnos. You will find in our music not only aggression and raw melodies but also furious pagan themes. We started it all in 2004 when I met Krukh. Both of us loved speed, raw but melodic and atmospheric black metal and we decided to create something in that way. There are only two members of DRAGOBRATH at a current time – me (Synevir – music) and Krukh - vocals.
3. Yours CD „Scripture of the Woods“ is a big suprise for me. Is full of pagan magic, but very heavy elements. Can you introduce music and lyrics on this CD?
Thanks for good words! Really I tried to work out speed but atmospheric music. It was not easy because previously I worked mainly with sympho black metal. But when all was done we were very happy with a result! The sound was raw but readable. Krukh wrote concept lyrics to the album. It is about mystic aspects of Carpathian mythology and glorious ancient pagan times.
4. Can you tell me someting about album cover and beautiful fotos? Really excellent motives!
Yeah, I made them all in the deeps of dark but proud Carpathian forests. The land of Carpathia was many times covered by a man blood so when you travel through old mountains you fell something strange. But also you fill powerful inspiration! Carpathians can be beautiful but can be vile…
5. Transylvanian Hunger is very goos covervesion! Do you like cover versions or tribute albums?
If I like some band sure I like cover versions of their songs! I think that Darkthrone song “Transylvanian Hunger” perfectly fits in our conception. We do not sing about vampires but in Carpathian folklore we met creatures close to vampires. And sure there is a dark forest around…
6. Ukraine metal wise is mostly known for nothing at all. Which bands are there that you would recommend to our readers (and which styles do they play)?
I can agree with you when we talk about all metal styles between black metal. Ukrainian black metal scene is famous in whole world! If you never heard Nocturnal Mortum, Astrofaes, Kroda, Lucifugum, Dub Buk, Drudkh, Capitollium, Hate Forest music you must to do that immediately!
7. You hear of a whole bunch of bands in countries of the former Soviet Union that are right wing/Nazi and stuff. What do you thinh about NOKTURNAL MORTUM or KRODA? I´think, than music is excelent, but their ideas are a little primitive…
Ha-ha! You must be joking! I am Viterzgir from KRODA! Heathen, pagan, NS ideology is only future for such style as black metal. Satanic and other shit sucks! You probably have not read KRODA and NM lyrics… Do that and you will change your point of view.
8. What is your opinion on political lyrics?
Such band’s as DRAGOBRATH and KRODA have no politics in lyrics. But it’s not means that we do not have politic views at all. But first of all we are artists and we can not unite folk or pagan elements in our music with political lyrics. But raw BM sure can handle politics in texts.
9. Can you describe words about METAL UNDERGROUND? What does it mean for you?
Underground in our days is full of shit and commerce. But the worst thing is in mp3 sharing in Internet. Small and middle labels can no normally sell their production. That means that underground will die and the quality of music will not be good. So I ask all metal fans to support the band’s they like and bye their albums.
10. What are your influences? I could not really detect any obvious bands that had found their way into your sound...
I started to listen to metal music in 1996. Since that time I played doom, death, black metal and even jazz rock… I really LOVE metal music and live with it in my heart. But I listen many music styles – from raw NS black to folk and ethno music. In black metal my favorites are DRUDKH, KHOLD, NEGURA BUNGET, ABSURD, 1349, BURZUM, KAMPFAR, HEIDEVOLK, GRAVELAND, TULUS, TURULVER and many more…
11. Are you satisfied with lifestyle in Ukraine? What do you thing about „orange revolution“ in your country?
Right now we have very complicated political situation in our country. Results of the “orange revolution” are very small and not stabile. Live in Ukraine is hard but we still have possibility to play cool black metal!
12. Do you know something about Czech republic? Do you know any czech´s metal bands?
Of course I know lot about Czech republic! Drummer of my another band CAPITOLLIUM works in your country and when he returns back to Ukraine he tells to us many interesting things. Personally I was in Slovakia many times but unfortunately I never visited Czech republic. Also I know band DYSANCHELY.
13. Your life´s philosophy?
I have heathen point of view on my life. I hate stupid and dull people and respect honor and brave. But first of all I am a musician and I want to create interesting and quality music.
14. OK what do you think what the future will bring to the band Dragobrath? Any new recording plans? Now we are working on new material. It will be 4 song mini CD or split with other band. DRAGOBRATH became more atmospheric and sophisticated. Maybe more middle-temped. But in any case darker and more chilling. Carpathians are breathing through our music!
